This time we finally get around to installing a toilet in Kiarra and kick off the renovations of the bathroom.

work, work, work. doing a great job. I live on my boat so I have some experience with toilets and showers. I have a cold water shower but as it is fresh water I hardly use it. What I do is heat a few litres over the stove then get in the cock pit and do a sponge bath, very suitable cock pit drains over the side.. I also have a 12 volt shower with pump that will fit into any bucket I am using for my sponge bath. Hardly ever use that. When at sea or on the water you stay a lot cleaner than on shore.

Always lots of work to be done mate as a fellow captain and boat owner I'm sure you can agree 👍. If it were just me on the boat I would tend to go along with you bathing idea but for the family I am sure running hot water will go down better. Also because we're not living on her I'm not to worried about the water usage.

i love my porta potty so convenient. stiil empty the tank same as thetford. only cost 85 bucks then im gone fishing lol. your toilet install looks great mate. cheers

That's it mate, I don't really believe in off the shelf parts or straight bold on parts. I have brought so many "bolt on parts" that I have had to modify to make work.

Well done on the head so far Tim, it's coming up a treat. Now just for the info (brain) 19 ltrs equals 5 Imperial gallons which is nearly 7 US gallons. PS: so far so good mate!!

i swapped a seatoilet for a chemical toilet 30yrs ago on my 25ft sailing boat. no regrets. no plummbing. minimal holding tank ( who wants tp store S^^t?) you can use it in anchorages and marinas, empty it in a common toilet or at sea.....

Good going! I've used a Thetford Porta Potti on a few boats for those sudden calls of nature while underway. Yours is 19 liters, which would equate to a bit over 5 gallons. Mine is only 2.6 gallons, so your capacity is almost double what mine can hold. This has worked fine for week long journeys for us, and I'm always free to dump the tank in the nearest toilet if necessary. 👍

As it was the template was a bit useless for me as I had already cut down the width of the toilet so didn't line up with the edges anymore. Was a lot of guesstimate involved in the installation lol

Same system we have in our Caravan. Gonna end up being more user friendly than older systems especially with kids. 2 of use standard usage 3 days with kids probably 2 days. Get second cannister ya can store on roof or in Anchor locker till ya ready to head ashore.Ya done great job installing it and with rotating bowl again lot more usable. It,s going to work out great when all water proofed. Also pay to have one of those hand held shower heads as well as we have in Caravan. Excellent work Tim keep at it. ;0)

Thanks mate, yeah I really wanted something that was a "normal" height to use. I would say I come under the category of Jack of all trades master of none. I used to hate working with wood but slowly I'm coming around to it. I have to make a new duck board soon and I'm going to try to do it a fancy as my skills will allow.

Good work Mate! I like the idea and I like the design you are putting into effect. The good thing about this Toilet is that it modular, I really suggest that you get a separate tank so you have two tanks on as a spare so if you can get to a place where you can dump them, and one gets filled up you will have a spare so that you won't be in a bind, because you and I know how children are. They might not be able to hold it until you get to port., that's my input anyways. Cheers!

If your in Australia I can give you the link to where I got it. They were $100 cheaper then anywhere else for the same part and the door came with it. Most other companies sell the door as a separate part.

Hi Tim, good job and best solution for a shitty room haha, a bucket for no 1 and the thetford for number 2, no rules about peeing in the ocean. Mate that piece you put across the bottom from the old plinth needs to be a bigger gap under to access your drain for cleaning. Cheers

Yeah most of the time it's number ones over the side. Doesn't look it on camera but there is a good 2inch gap under it, more then enough for me to get my little girl hands in there.

To be honest mate I didn't even know about them. I just went and checked and they have a larger holding capacity than what I have. I'm happy with the install now but if I had found that model earlier I may have gone a different way.

It is a good size and has 12v electric or hand pump versions. However I did have an electric which failed when the (clean) water tank splashed into the battery compartment in rough motoring. It's a design fault and last time I checked they hadn't corrected it so it can only be used on 'sedate' cruising boat.

Are you going to clean or change the flooring at all? It looked like it had rust on the floor on the walls ..or is that damage? Im just asking.. If it was me.. I would totally clean that area before installing new things..

It's water stains from a previous leak plus some rust stains from steel nails and screws that were used to install the previous sink. The whole room is going to get new waterproofing and paint once I have everything installed

Yeah that's all the capacity I have. I will admit I have done so solid grog bogs in my day but would take more then 2 to fill a 5 gallon bucket. I will probably buy a 2nd holding tank in the future as a backup on longer trips 👍
