yes, an odd situation. She is at one of the most tourist driven attractions in London, exposed to the public of all ages and nationalities. People are there to wonder at the magnificent horse & King's Guard in all their impressive regalia and of course they want photos and maybe a pet of the horse. Nowhere does it show petting or taking photos are forbidden. A bit of diplomacy & discretion in dealing w/ these factors is required. Yet she fiercely guards her territory, as if daring any tourist to cross her. She's got more strict decorum rules than most other guards which sends out conflicting signals to a confused public. What she creates is a hostile & extremely unpleasant experience for people, many of whom this trip meant great cost and may possibly be the only holiday trip of the year. She is too angry & uptight, too rigid to be in that delicate mix. I am sure she will learn to relax a bit in time. Either that, or she will be removed away from the public.

There should NOT BE any petting of the horses..the crowding around of the horse and Guard with often Several people touching the horse at once, is beyond a joke. Since when WAS this allowed to get so out of hand? Foolish people grabbing the reins, yesterday ( see post) some guy grabbed the chain and didn't want to let go..What is the matter with such badly behaved people.? In this day and age nobody can tell who is out to harm others..These are Soldier of the British Army first and formost. They go to war when need be. Standing post here is the ceremonial side of their work. If people want to pet an animal just head 11:05 to a Petting zoo or get some therapy. These Guards and their mounts are standing their post guarding what was once the outer boundary of Buckingham palace, NOT here just for photo ops for tourists.Some of the behaviours are disgraceful. RESPECT their rules and leave the horse alone.
@shirleyanneyoung955 Жыл бұрын
@@daphnethurlow5388The tourists aren’t breaking any rules by touching the horses, they are doing what they are allowed to do. The people at fault are the ones who make the rules. The guards can’t stop anyone from touching the horses either because, again, they don’t make the rules. The guards have to follow orders and I’m sure they hate people pawing at the horses just as much as most of us do but until the rules are changed it’s still going to happen.

It only takes common sense to follow the rules. If you don't speak nor read English, have someone with you to translate. Be respectful of the rules and the country you are visiting. Plus, that horse weighs on average of 1,000 pounds. Add the armed police with that assault rifle with finger on the trigger, that taser and the pistol strapped to the thigh--don't mess around with authority, nor England. People act like they are clueless. I would never go to another country without knowing some basic rules and customs.

In this video, at least no one touched the reins which is usually a problem. In addition to the printed sign, I wonder if it would be helpful to have a picture to deter tourists from touching the reins. The picture could be of a person touching the reins and a large red X over the hand touching the reins. Then tourists who don't read English could figure it out. I also have a question. Why do the guards sometimes have red tassels and sometimes gold tassels on their helmets? What would determine which color is worn?
