I was taught 50 years ago to use both brakes when stopping. Using the rear brake only in slow turns is new to me, but it makes sense. I’ve dropped the bike before using front brake with the wheel turned. Thanks for correcting me on that.

Your right. He did say use both brakes to stop, but there’s strategic reasons to only use one or the other.

My 2012 Victory Vision had link-brakes. They wouldn't engage until your speed met a certain threshold (15 - 20 MPH I believe) and then only if you pressed/squeezed the brake hard enough. I loved those and the anti-locks both!

It is sad that so much readily available information is not obtained by people who really could use it. The operating characteristics of linked brakes has never been a secret. But I am sure that this information will be a revelation to many people who watch your video. As I tell people in my CMSP classroom, "...but linked brakes will be unimportant to you since you took this course and know to always use both brakes!" Then later we talk about loose gravel and the exception that proves the rule😉

Can you explain "electronically" linked brakes like on a Road Glide standard?

@motorman8572 жыл бұрын
What makes you think that they unlink at 6mph or below?
@SILVERGHOST-qu5cn2 жыл бұрын
@@motorman857 Straight from the dealers mouth that's what they told me when I bought it. I'd have to look at my manual again but I think it states in there as well that they unlink below 6mph
@SILVERGHOST-qu5cn2 жыл бұрын
@@motorman857 update Jerry just checked my manual page 119 it states at speeds 2 mph the brakes unlink not 6 mph. I guess my Dealer was wrong
@motorman8572 жыл бұрын
@@SILVERGHOST-qu5cn Actually, the manual states that the linked system of the rear brake to the front depends upon how much pressure the rider is putting on the rear brake. The more pressure on the rear brake, the more front brake the computer allows. Light pressure on the rear brake should not give any front brake. In my 2022 police manual it's on page 103 under cornering enhanced electronic linked brakes. The dealers ''mouth'' obviously hasn't read the manual. Take everything the dealer says with a grain of salt.

Have you tried doing an internet search on linked brakes? Have you been able to take a look at my 1.5K free videos here? It's out there, just search and you will find your answer.
@ArcanePath360Ай бұрын
@@motorman857 I did a search before it brought me here. Everything else it suggested came up with irrelevant stuff. Search engines seem to suck these days. They push you towards anything but what you want. Would like the link. my BMW R1200RT is meant to have linked brakes but when I strip down the rear, apply front brake lever, nothing happens at the rear. My rear pads wear out when I don't even use the rear, and BMW told me it was because of linked brakes

@@ArcanePath360 That sounds like B.S. to me. I'd bet the pads are dragging against the rotor.

Hey Jerry-thanks for everything you do-true rider treasure. Quick question, I have a 19 Road King and am wondering the best handlebar height for control. I’m 6’0 and have them matched to the forks, but they feel more comfortable lower-whataya think?
@motorman8572 жыл бұрын
If you have a standard Road King the stock bars are the same ones used on police bikes. They have plenty of pull back so you can adjust them forward or back. If you pop the plastic piece just behind the head light you can get to the two bolts. Loosen them and put the bars where you want.
@swooski66572 жыл бұрын
@@motorman857 Speedy reply is much appreciated. I do know/have adjusted the bars, question is should I match the forks for better control(higher bars) or lower for more comfort. Looking for the optimal control height, pretty comfortable at either position
