This is huge for me. I’m poor and can’t afford golf lessons up her in northern VA and finally decided to video tape myself at the range and realized how much I was standing up and throwing my club at the ball. This video (namely the cheeks on the ground part) really gave me the right feeling to stay down and in posture. Thank you so much, hopefully I can start hitting bombs!

If you're pulling then it may not be over rotating. It may be that your upper body is opening with your lower body causing you to swing over the top.

Clay, i'm a senior golfer and have been standing up and hitting thin low shots. Today on the range I used this squat move ( ie. Did Not throw my right hip at the ball upon impact) result : effortless power with very high 7 iron. Bingo ! I can liken this move to throwing a bowling ball down the lane. Hips get cleared and spine angle is curved. Good , NO, Great Tip !

What's amazing it that I tried this today and put it on video . I really tried to squat *deep* , but you couldn't even see it on video . *feel is not real.* you really must feel the extremes to make any swing change.

Thanks for all the videos Clay, I find there is so much contradictory advise out there, I know I am coming out of posture because I have analysed my swing and I tend to top the ball but I play with my two friends, one of them an ex England player and the other plays off 3. They both tell me don't squat, keep the weight on the toes etc... I think there is a lot to say for the newer coaches such as yourself that really look at the intricate mechanics of a good swing, vs the old school style that ran on superstitions and based their ethos upon things that professionals said in interviews.
@TopSpeedGolf4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there is a difference between what is actually happening and what you think is happening which is why you have to be careful. Your friends probably feel like they are in their toes and not squatting (and they very well might be) but I don't see too many good players who don't get some forward shaft lean which usually requires you to move your hips this way. You don't need to square down a foot but you need to get some flexion in the legs. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Feel and Real. Even Clay struggles with it. You are early extending as well if you look at your position at impact. Not denying that you have a great swing and hitting it really well, just over emphasising the lack of ‘real’ over feel. You believed that you were squatted really low and opened the hips through impact however it really wasn’t as much as you thought it was. I’m battling with this issue right now like the most of us and you have to take an over exaggeration, times it by 10 then you start to see a tiny difference haha. God damn I love and hate this game
@TopSpeedGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jason, thanks for sharing. I agree that Clay doesn't have a lot of squat in his swing but he isn't early extending. The timing of his extension is right about where it needs to be. You're exactly right, feel is not real. Must people are extending in the backswing and beginning of downswing so they need to feel a deep squat in the heels move like what Clay is demonstrating to early extend less. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@JLMedialtd4 жыл бұрын
@@TopSpeedGolf thanks Quentin, as you probably summized, I certainly wasn’t picking holes or putting his swing down, was purely over emphasising the difference between feel and real as he states himself. From the angle I’m seeing it looked like the hips had moved forward very slightly from their original set up position.

Hello Clay, I’m in Early Extension HELL, and have been for many many years! I have two instructors right now, an online and a local instructor, and I still can’t find a way to dig myself out of this hole. I’m ready to break my new clubs and just call it quits. I’ve tried several of your getting low, squatting tips from your videos but I always end up hitting the ground severely behind the ball and taking chunks of turf out, sometimes not even hitting the ball. This makes me stop the drill and look for something else to try and fix this standing up in the downswing, early extension, losing posture fatal swing flaw that I have. What am I doing wrong doing these drills not even getting these right hitting the ground first. I’m either standing up in my full golf swing or chunking the ground when doing your drills for this. 🤦🤦🤦😡🤬. Thanks 🙏!
@TopSpeedGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, sorry to hear you're having trouble with this. The first thing you want to make sure you're doing is squatting and rotating. If you're just squatting and not opening up the body at impact then you're going to release the club early and hit the ground. If you are getting the body to open up then that's great. Now you're in a position to be able to release the club more in front. Check out this video where we go over the release: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fICuamWklMaYic0. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

@@TopSpeedGolf Thanks Quentin! My problem is though that the hips rotate fine on the backswing, and rotate fine going down until square with the ball at which time they just stop 🛑 ✋ and the L hip begins to move upward and not around causing ALL the requisite issues after. Any way you can take a quick look and recommend to me a specific Top Speed Golf drill that would benefit me the most for my early extension? I’m almost ready to just pack it in because I’ve tried multitudes to help me stop this move but nothing is sticking.

(Larry San Diego) If you on a daily basis how many repetitions would you recommends if you have been battling this major fault for years?
@TopSpeedGolf3 жыл бұрын
I would try alternating between both extremes. Really squat down on one and then stand way up on the next. You'll learn fastest by going this route even if you're hitting them horribly. After doing this awhile, find the right amount of squatting and shallow club path to hit the ball squarely. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Looks to me (very fast, so hard to see clearly) that you're making that "squat" more with your left side than your right. Clearly, you are way overexaggerating it in the explanation, for learning purposes. But man, it's not too deep and you don't hold it more than a millisecond or so.
@silverfox53192 жыл бұрын
If you have a bad back absolutely not. That's why Fred Couples has an upright stance - it's much easier on his back, much easier. I know, I've had major back surgery and an upright stance is much easier on my back. Ask any neurosurgeon.
