Clay as usual, another example of the best golf instruction on the internet. I stay in my posture simply by driving my right shoulder at the ball. Its a feel thing. If I keep my right shoulder in the same posture and drive it into the ball, everything just works. I visualize DJ or Lee Westwood and how they do this, Tommy Fleetwood too. If you watch them from down the line you can see the right shoulder just driving at the ball.

Wonderful instruction. As a single digit handicap that never shanked a ball in my life, until post Iraq deployment, I was dumbfounded, distraught, and hopless on return to the states... it was like I never played the game before, intermittently. I was ready to quit. Loss of posture was entirely the culprit, but I could never figure out why. In true Ben hogan style, the secret was in the dirt, and with the assistance of videos like this of course! I realized, for me, it was all due to my trail side. Two things, I was too quick to get on my right toe, which essentially prematurely straightened my right knee, which then created a loss of right hip angle/side bend, because subsequently, my hip straightened as well. The hip always got closer to the ball. The swing rotation was then, too horizontal, baseball like. Swing ark was too acutely round through impact zone. Picture a circle drawn on the ground? That leaves little to no room for error at impact, unless you rotate like Gary sheffield. And no golfer should rotate like that! Ever! So a bit more weight concentrated on the right heel at the start, and halfway through transition, while maintaining a more fluid, soft right knee flex, but purposeful move through the ball... boom... back to 4 index....

Clay just wanted to give you an update on my swing. I started watching your Chanel last fall and practiced a lot of what you taught through the winter. I would just swing a club without hitting a ball. I focused on shallowing the club and wrist twist. Did this over and over all winter. I finally hit the range recently, and wanted to see if this practice paid off and in one bucket of balls I was so pleased with my ball flight. I was hitting better than I ever have. I owe it to your videos like this. Thank you very much.

Well Clay, you've fixed my swing again. I struggled Saturday and couldn't figure out why. This was why. I look at it as "engaging my core" like one does when doing crunches or sit-ups. Saturday I was battling standing up too early all day. I had less distance than normal and bladed several shots. I couldn't figure it out. I just took ten practice swings after watching this video. Boom, fixed. Back to my easy repeatable swing, scuffing the rug just after the ball. Thanks, once again.

Awesome video! Understanding the muscles that come into play and when to engage them is SUPER helpful. I've watched like 8 videos on this including 3 other ones you've posted, but this one really clicked! The grip tips and shallowing out of the club are pieces that I was missing as well. Until I started doing that I was still casting the club resulting in a hook I've never had before. Thanks Clay!

Great video as always. With the tennis racket drill, I sometimes struggle with how much wrist bowing I need; how much to manipulate the wrists at the top. Do you consciously think about the extent of left wrist bow at the top? If I already have enough wrist bow at address, how much do I still need to focus on the “tour twist” at the top? Admittedly, I do struggle with a steep downswing, so these are excellent drills. But at the range or in a round, I’m constantly wondering, am I twisting too much or not enough??
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 3 жыл бұрын
If you're twisting too much then you'll be hooking the ball. It's actually not a bad thing when trying to get this down. Just back off how much you're twisting/bowing the lead wrist once you get there. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Just a thought linking the tennis racket drill with your plan to give some reviews on teaching aids. I don't know of anything that gives you feedback on how well you are performing "the move" while actually swinging a club at full speed. (Apart from watching the direction your ball goes ofc and by then it is too late) I think it might be possible to develop a motion sensor that could be attached to the handle of the golf club. It would be small enough to have no effect on the swing. It simply needs to be able to measure the rotation down the axis of the shaft. If it did that it could link to an app which could give feedback that would help practice e,g, a small "beep" if you did the move correctly during transition. It could also record shaft axis rotation and play it back comparing what you have done with ideal. This can be difficult to see even on a video. This might be something that an engineering student at college could develop as a project and it could be commericalised as a joint venture with yourself. I think you are absolutely right about the importance of "the move" so I am sure it would sell well. "Clay's The Move" or something. Alternatively it might be something that GEARS or Swing Catalyst might be interested in if they do not already measure this already. If this device were to exist it could also be extended to measure the extent to which the club is shallowing and give information similar to above. I know myself that this can be very hard to detect when actually hitting balls and something that gave feedback without the need to look at a mirror or video camera would be a great help.

This worked so good the last 2 days Cracking Wallnuts getting full open @TopSpeedGolf Can you do more ground force reaction Vids Touching on that GFR is what happens in a golf swing and not rotation I feel as though the word Rotation is what causes amateurs to come over the top...ME all these years AhHa moment is understanding that GFR is what leads to a proper backswing/downswing/impact/release/full finish. The word rotate would cause my right hip to spin out and right shoulder follows and over the top happens. It would affect my backswings also. Thinking rotate in the swing makes it difficult to initiate the downswing with the lower body Hard to keep the upper body back for proper impact position also. With GFR it’s hard to get out of position Backswing becomes much more comfortable and the ability to get the club in the proper position waiting to be loaded up. Now I can pull the arrow out of the quiver 😜 Thinking Rotate makes that impossible. Left side pressure starts to accumulate and loads glutes/quads/hams There’s the squat you’ve always coached I can now actually get my left glute over my left heel as I squat. Left hip goes up and back Shallowing happens and you throw the frisbee 👍 (thanks you for that) 💥 impact/head stays back/straight line release/squeeze glutes to a full finish. With GFR the elbow drops in the slot a lot easier as complete to thinking rotate Elbow can’t get in the slot if you’re think Rotate. Obviously I’ve followed you guys for a long long time. Thank you to the whole team The word rotate has held me back But not no more

I’m doing this early extension and I know I’m doing it. I don’t have any hip problems or pain but no matter what I do I physically cannot clear my left hip it feels like it runs into a wall and I’m forced to stand up. I do tons of mobility drills I lift weights and I am very flexible for a guy in his mid-30s I don’t have any other pain in my body or injuries but I literally cannot clear that left hip. I have no idea how to do it and as many times as I watch videos like this it just doesn’t work I don’t know what else to do and it’s such a bummer. I love golf and I love golfing but it’s to the point where I almost don’t even want to golf anymore and it’s just not fun. I take lessons and I’ve gone over this with the instructor and I feel like he hasn’t done anything to help me either
