Two mental lapses I say from EJ since accident. Garcia fight: EJ mouth piece was knocked out, he immediately stop protecting hisself and looked for mouthpiece. EJ said "it was a rookie mistake, a mental lapse". Ugas fight: EJ mouthpiece knocked out, again he stop defending his self to start looking for mouthpiece, a dangerous move. EJ said "I had dental work done, and I though Ugas knocked my teeth out". In none of his previous fight throughout the years he never done this. In fact, it is not common for a fighter to all of a sudden stop defending and fighting to start looking for mouthpiece. imo of course, peace.

assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah, brother sayf! So glad to see you after your hiaitus! This was a very good breakdown. The Spence-Crawford fight was very enjoyable for a number of reasons: 1. Errol Spence, Jr was unified champion and was looking to unify the final title, the WBO. It was almost a fairytale story, the guy that said he was going to collect the titles, went about doing so and got the final gem stone. 2. Terence Crawford was chasing the fight from the time he stepped up after relinquishing UNDISPUTED junior welterweight, he was no.1 for WBO title contention against Jeff Horn at WW, who although much larger than Crawford, he got after him. This led to him chasing the Spence fight for five years, struggling against his own promotional company, in addition to PBC/Mayweather syndicate that didn't even show him on its list of champions when discussing welterweights. And this disgusted me greatly. 3. I had the fight 55/45 in favour of Crawford based upon the fact that Crawford had been making stoppages since 140lbs and since arriving at WW. The size was not a concern as to my memory Crawford had only been the bigger guy in some three cases, that being Gamboa, Lundy and Jean. If I am not mistaken, the rest of the time, he was outweighed and had statistic disadvantages to overcome, which he did. 4. When they met, Spence looked the same as he always did, coming forward, a body snatcher, steady puncher with some good basic punch rate and relentless pressure. The difference was Crawford opted instead of a flicking jab, went for a POWER jab, which looked like a piston. Instead of looping shots, he just had straight, compact combinations and shots with just slight turns of the torso. The fight was amazing in terms of its twists and turns. Whenever ESJ would be on the verge of doing something or gaining some confidence, Crawford took it away and discouraged his progress. And that was the story of the fight. What worries me for Spence about the rematch is this, 1. Spence was in camp with the Charlo brothers for a number of years and they are accustomed to bullying fighters with size, they've become accustomed to their vaunted power, in fact in some ways they fell in love with it. And this was on display when we saw Charlo against Harrison, who won and in the rematch I thought was winning handily before he lost composure and got stopped. 2. I don't know if that is just with these three fighters or with James's training style but to their detriment, they've sufficed themselves with a come forward, powerpunch, blowout style, when in their original appearance in the pros, they had good boxing skill with variety but they preferred to be a blunt instrument, so those skills atrophied. 3. Spence brought that same mentality into the fight with Crawford and Crawford could see him telegraphing from the shoulders when he threw, the move of his left leg when he's about to hook and his dipping heavy over the front foot when he is going to throw a jab or shoot it to the body. Those are carved in TELLS that he shows and Crawford just read it like a Dick and Jane book for kids. Could Spence win? Yes, but for the fight he'd have to change his ENTIRE style. Take Muhammad Ali for example, he changed his entire style to deal with George Foreman and it paid off in ways that we still appreciate today. The issue is Spence, I don't believe he has the ring IQ of an Ali, he doesn't have the time to do such a massive change nor do I think he has the skills left that he let go dormant over those years that he chose to fall in love with his power and bodysnatching. So my opinion, not that it matters, is that Spence can do BETTER but I don't think he will win unless he did something drastic as what Ali did against Foreman. If he does, I stand corrected but if not, my opinion stands. That said, I really thought the Spence story was a great story about a man determined to collect the titles and doing so. But he's also a company man so he was advertised well. As a final note, I'm sure you remember, Br. Sayf, when Crawford said to Spence after the fight, "No, Thank YOU! If it hadn't have been for YOU this fight wouldn't have happened". Some people think this is to do with that Spence did the heavylifting and not Crawford. I beg to differ. I think Crawford was referencing the fact that SPENCE wanted the fight and NOT Mayweather (who has become the promoter that he despised when he was in Top Rank, blocking great fights and all), Stephen Espinoza and Al Haymon. Spence wanted to test his metal and I will always respect him for that. They WANTED him to avoid and he didn't. Mayweather even tried to interfere, "The fight's NOT happening," he whined. So glad it happened. Thanks again, brother Sayf. I know you're in your hermit phase, but we need more of this great content from you! The length of this message indicates you were MISSED, man!

Remember me my friend, I'm the guy that wayback then before the fight took place who said that Crawford would beat Spence and that Devin Haney would beat George Kambosos and you and I had your little back and forth about it. Now one thing we do agree on is I think Teddy Atlas is full of it! Now one more thing about Terrence Crawford is, when Bruce Lee said to be like water 💧 As a fighter Terrence Crawford is about as close to that as you can get ! He is very adaptive 😮 and very intuitive ,qualities that are invaluable in any situation. (Intangible) I would go on to say that's the X-Factor . Also , I think lot people thought by Spence being bigger and they automatically assumed that he was stronger, but I remember seeing the videos were Terrence Crawford lifted nearly 400 pounds and right before he did it , looked into the camera and said bigger doesn't necessarily mean stronger. Also to me something that doesn't get enough credit is Crawford is blessed with a Hellava team in Bomack and them . I mean the (whole team ) and the team is blessed with Hellava fighter in Terrence Crawford a fighter who can follow and compete your instructions to the letter if need be✨️

Crawford won't come in at 154 lbs because he doesn't have to, but i think he will be even stronger and as fast. Spence, on the other hand, doesnt have very fast hands and isnt very agilie so his size wont make a difference , because he still will give away all the advantages that are relevant to a boxing match to Crawford . So, does Spence have any real chance to win against someonel ike Crawford, especially after what happened in their last fight ? My answer is, i simply don't think so.

Correct if i am wrong but one of the added benefits about crawford wrestling is that he would have more likelt wrestled people a lot heavier than him. This would have happened more often in wrestling training than sparring in boxing. Also because there is no striking in wrestling the sparring would have been less damaging therefore wrestling with bigger guys the sessions would have been allowed to be more intense.

Sounds good. One other thing that many people overlook is the exhaustion of wrestling. There is NO level of exhaustion like what you feel in wrestling practice! Most people in American martial arts have no idea what it is to grind it out beyond the stage of seeing 3 people and there is only one in front of you. Getting used to that kind of "tired", gets you over all things.

@biggd9817: Footwork is far overrated and most good fighters don't know were to start if you ask them about it. Bud has feet and he moved them. That does not mean that footwork was what made him better than spence. It was his picking up punches early and the angles. DVD sets are sold on footwork, it is a hustle. Using your feet to turn side ways bagging up and or moving laterally while giving or blocking shots hell even propper stance or positioning of the feet whether its on the inside or the outside is consider good foot work which not every body has like spence for that matter. I am an intellectual first. That means, as long as I can drive a new Honda, afford a nice place to live and take the wife out to dinner once a month, I am good.

This man is saying some real talk about Crawford and lm with what he is talking about Crawford just got his number it would be better that Errol didn't take this fight he have to much to lose and it not worth no money at all Errol need to go and enjoy his fruits of his labor and enjoy his family and live his life it was once said quitting is not the same as quitting while you're ahead .

I agree but what people are saying about Spence isn’t a difference in style. It’s a difference in punching power and his punch resistance looked non existent. Couldn’t take a punch and Crawford walked through his best shots. Both things were uncharacteristic

@bookstore101: Wa Alaikum Musalaam: Ahki, Atlas is like Joe Rogan and Eddie Bravo: If people are big on them, it is because they do not have much knowledge! Do you know how many fighters Teddy Atlas has trained from cradle to pros? All of the credit he is given comes from him getting fighters who were good anyway! Teddy Atlas is almost only mentioned by the fan who is more fan than fighter. All loud talk and nothing much else.

Good breakdown, I disagree with Errol virtually has no chance, I'm aware of some things he can do, one is emloy you as a additional trainer/advisor, the other things I forwarded to his team, I don't know If he'll do any of it.

Also Bruce Lee, said something like if someone practiced/trained in boxing and wrestling they would beat many traditional martial artists..something like that. Also Silat experience would benefit a boxer & in my opinion several martial arts or other sports could benefit a boxers boxing for example...gymnastics in a similar way wrestling would or shot put sport or fencing.

Who's to say that the repercussions from the wreck didn't show up until he went through a couple fights. Crawford was awesome and I followed him on HBO, but Spence has never looked that weak. He had no legs under him at all.

@@qbrown8753 u sound crazy.Bud knocked him down, which mean Bud hurt him, which further proves Bud was able to hurt him within the first 5 minutes of the fight, continuing to prove Bud is a better fighter than Errol. I like EJ as a fighter but I know boxing and knew Bud would win. I just didnt know Bud was going to beat EJ like that. However EJ said over and over again that was going to take Buds will, break him down and it was going to be a one sided buttocks whooping. EJ just didnt know those words were going to be his own chapter in the book Bud wrote.
