MKG always played big. You can see it with what little offensive repertoire he has (offensive rebounding, short mid baby hooks, close range jumpers). He should've always been an undersized 4 but Charlotte drafted PFs three drafts in a row. The jumper was always going to be a work in progress and everyone knew it at the time. Charlotte really just drafted him because he was a workhorse and they thought he could start a culture shift, not looking into what his personality coming out of college was (and because they thought they were getting AD after probably the worst season in NBA history). Oh and Mark Price kind of left him for dead midway through promising to fix his jumper so take that how you will. There was improvement in the area right before Price left and then he got hurt. He reverted to the janky inward elbow again after coming back. Clifford is probably the only coach who ever believed in his strengths, letting him crash the glass with reckless abandon and letting him post up a bit when opposing teams hide small guards on him. The moment Clifford left, Borrego just put him in the doghouse, never used him and then he got waived.

MKG was in tenth grade then, and I had no clue who he was, and after a while, I stopped watching Dexter, (who was not all that impressive) and just focused on him, because I just couldn't believe how hard this kid played. His motor truly never stopped, and I remember after the game, I looked online and saw that he was the second ranked player in the class of 2011, and I thought "Ah, this makes sense now." I always LOVED his motor...not necessarily his overall game because of that awful hitch in his shot, but I always believed that he'd at least be a good NBA player for the simple fact that he played so unbelievably hard all the time. While that motor always burned hot, and still does, that offensive game never developed, and he never could get that shot together, which really lead to his downfall in the league. But, shoutout to him for getting as far as he did with a pretty limited skill set.

that shot could have and should have been corrected. if you let the guy shoot the ball like that in practice you should be fired. he shouldnt have even been allowed to touch the basketball until they completely corrected his mechanics. starting w/ his footwork. he's sideways to the basket before he even starts to shoot the ball. everything after that is compensation. if you turn his body to face the basket all the insane arm positioning naturally will change as a result. any professional basketball player that has poor shooting mechanics can be easily corrected w/ effort. no matter what it is, you have to start at the beginning. getting your feet in proper alignment EVERY time. for this not to happen I cant help but think the coaches had no intention of helping him become a better player.

I’m a huge Kentucky fan for life and I know the cats wouldn’t have won the championship without MKG but he was definitely a bust at #2. If he had stayed another season he would’ve been drafted in the second round for sure.

I grew up with him, He’s from Somerdale New Jersey I’m from the next town over in Magnolia New Jersey. Were about 10 to 15 minutes away from Philadelphia and we weren’t best friends or anything but I knew him and from a young age everyone knew he was going to go to the NBA I really thought he was going to be better than Anthony Davis

honestly he truly wasn't a stunted growth he low key over exceeded.. we seen way better stay way less in the nba.. idk if this shows how much coaches love defensive wings.. him and Andre Roberson started and played in the nba for a long time for very poor jump shooters because of their defense

His only major stunt was lack of shooting. If he had a solid 3 point shot he would be a more athletic mikael bridges. Solid versatile defender, good motor, great athlete. Wouldn’t have 2 run any plays 4 him. Prototypical 3&D guy. As far as his place in the drafts…all drafts aren’t created equal. I’m sure most teams back then would have drafted him if they could have based on his size, athletic ability, an youth. Can’t play the hindsight game.

I thought Harrison Barnes was for sure going to be who Charlotte picked. He seemed like the better available pick. In hindsight, he hasnt panned out as much either, but at the time, I thought he was the guy.

@@Michael_Page Very much so… Basically I’m saying because I played ball, I felt like if I grew to 6’6” I would’ve been in the nba… Meaning I would’ve been better due to my height… Of course we know that it’s not just about height…
@Michael_Page3 жыл бұрын
@@wc6081 What does that have to do with MKG? He actually did make millions in the NBA as a relatively unskilled 6'6" player. For some players, it is true that a few inches in height would have given them a chance to play pro, for some others, it is not. Where is the sarcasm?

@MustBeEazy2373 Жыл бұрын
Here as a hornets fan it’s a lot of things in his game that was useful I think for one ppl don’t understand the fit in Charlotte wasn’t good the only shooting threat on the floor was kemba and even then he was a good cutter .That’s just offensively defensively I saw no issues he hustled , could rebound and go at times , had a decent handle , and was bouncy . The fit simply wasn’t good for Charlotte but put him somewhere like a Miami he’s revered . As well as besides the big names in the draft we know now are house hold stars it was worry about two small guard lineups and it wasn’t clear brad and dame would be who they were .
