Marcus Camby was a unicorn in his era. He had the talent to be the first Anthony Davis with the skillset and make up he had. He still became one of the best defenders of his generation even though he's usually forgotten when his class is brought up. What is it that makes people think he could've been better? Here's what I think.

Camby definitely had an admirable career. Followed him since he was @ UMass w/ Travieso and Padilla. Granted, he had his injury issues. However, I don't think he gets NEARLY enough credit for his defensive prowess; the brotha was DPOY in '06-'07. If I had to fault him for anything, it would be talking about the 💰/benefits he received after he left. It served no purpose but "stuntin'" (my bad brotha, I'm just gonna use it this one time) Padilla, Travieso and the others who still had a chance @ another tourney run the next year....Above all, good, solid player & career.

Big time stars. It's because today's game got so young. We aren't seeing "grown men" like we used to. Ones that are physically ready for the level. It's a bunch of kids trying to get in as soon as possible. Then the mentality isn't the same either. These new guys are soft as fuck! All this joining and buddy buddy stuff took some of the choices mpetitve feel. So yes, those grown men from that Era would dominate this one.

That's not necessarily true. I think he did what was required within the framework of the system in which he played. The majority of centers were not required to be offensive threats outside of Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, David Robinson. Maybe if he played power forward he could have showcase more offensive prowess. Didn't Tim Duncan come into the league as a center?

First, it was BS how Jeff Van Gundy (who I do like) relegated Camby to a BACKUP role in New York, even after Pat Ewing got injured! Camby was first-five worthy. I will say, I'm impressed, by the time Camby got to the Blazers, he made himself a REBOUNDING machine, putting up 11-12 rebound games, consistently!

I remember being in 8th grade of primary school, I was starting to get into the NBA, one day I was in the playground and some high school students were playing basketball, I saw the basketball bouncing towards my feet, when it stopped I saw something written on it: “Marcus Camby” today I watched the 5th game of the 1999 NBA finals, what a memorable game eventhough the Spurs won the championship, Camby and the Knicks gave their fans a surreal season. I love the old UMASS teams with a fiesty coach Cal, Lou Roe, Camby and those those two really great Latino guards. Early Knicks Camby was his peak value to me and my personal favorite version of him. High energy, swooping in for dunks and blocks. Really fun to watch! I never thought he was going be a some great carry an offense force but a solid contributor on O, prime on D. Marcus Camby, defensive monster, to me he should have made at least 2-3x all star appearances and probably win more DPOY awards too and also could’ve made couples All Defensive team but it is what is, I understand what @Stunted Growth tryna say, he definitely had a nice long career, but in those years playing he could’ve definitely been much more better due to the fact he never really develop a offensive skill set to go with his nice defense game, especially during that time he was playing when C and PF was actually playing like a true C & PF and was dominating the paint and all had a nice post up game and footwork and also due to the fact that he was #2 overall pick in arguably one of “the best” NBA draft class of all time, consider how much guys in that class made so much All Stars appearance, change team franchise and definitely impacted the culture as a whole

He only lacks facial hair, tunnel pics, dribbling and a pick n roll game.. give him that and he is AD

One of the greatest dunks I've ever saw was the one-handed tomahawk slam Marcus Camby made over an outstretched Dikembe Mutombo block attempt during his Knicks days. Most videos of that dunk are of poor quality from the best angle of that dunk.

Those UMASS teams were great... Beating them in the tourney was the first step to Maryland rescuing itself.

The 95-96 college basketball season was amazing... That UMass team was great. My favorite two players were Marcus Camby and Lorenzen Wright- he'd be a good one for this channel.

I disagree AD already had point guard skills before The growth spurt which made him the size he is now.
