Is it silly to mention the property taxes and insurance costs in an appeal letter? Both have increased substantially. What does a typical fasfa amount look like for a graduate student (asking for self not child). Is there grants for graduate students or is it just loans?

graduate students can borrow up to $20,500 a year in federal direct loans. FRee money is very limited but there are outside scholarships you can apply for as a graduate student...

the scholarship offers students get directly after the offer of admission are merit scholarship offers based on their admissions application... the financial aid offer will also include a direct student loan and possibly other financial aid
