Gerry is a financial analyst but the books at home just don’t balance. This is a second marriage for both Kelley and Gerry and they’re both trying hard to avoid control issues they faced in past relationships. But, with three kids and seven years of uncontrolled spending under their belts, they’re sinking fast.

I hate that the 'selling cookware' thing was included. Most of those are multi-level marketing agencies and you never truly make any money doing it and burn bridges with friends/family by trying to convince them to buy your crap.

I read a statement by a bank employee, when asked what the craziest thing is they've been asked, the banker said " a customer came in and demanded we reload his credit card. That he had already racked up to the limit and needed it to be refilled. I had to explain to him that's now how it works. He has to pay off what he spent. Took a long time and included a manager to explain to the guy that's not how credit cards work". I was just baffled

This thinking blows my mind. But I’ve watched every episode of this show at least twice over the years. I live on Social Security- single parent, job without retirement. 75, live alone in a Senior community (it’s lovely!). I think the last time I went out to dinner was 9/21 (it’s 6/22 now). I’ve never had dinner delivered. I’ve gone to visit friends but don’t remember my last vacation. I have zero debt. Everything is paid in full every month. I use a credit card to get the points but paid in full religiously. My funeral right down to opening the grave is prepaid. I have six months living expenses in the bank. Let’s face it - I could run up a ton of debt that would be erased when I die but I still would be anxious knowing I had debt. These people fascinate me!

I wholeheartedly agree for many reasons, but I think one stands out from this couple in particular. The uncertainty alone can be extremely distressing. And it doesn't even have to be as bad as being unsure whether you're debit charge will go through at the grocery store. A partner might just have a skewed perception of the financial picture, and dispelling those misperceptions can be helpful in many ways.

It's a pyramid scheme---the person who makes the most money is the one at the very top of the pyramid, with all those working under/for them making less and less the farther down the pyramid one is. As far down as that woman was, at the very bottom, she wouldn't be able to make very much money at all. It would actually have cost her more to get back into the selling than she could make in the first two months. MLMs aren't a good thing, but unfortunately, they're still very much around in 2024. Too much credit from banks at that time. Banks and the populace all thought the money would always be available. Now, these banks who created the problem are putting the screws on the ordinary people.

I’m just imagining the process of filming the b roll for these episodes that show how povo they are..Gail grabbing the couple and saying, “hey, can you humiliate yourself in front of a dozen random strangers a few more times by swiping your card at the check out so we can get 1000 more shorts of it being declined ? K thanks”.

Ok sure, I buy groceries with with a welfare card but in my defense i have special needs and IF i go on it’s a small amount like for charity or for something for Christmas or a book here or there that i can’t get on thrift books or a travel mug. I only get shoes when i absolutely need them. I buy a pair and wear them until I wear them out. Do I sometimes ear out? yes but only when i can afford it

When family loans money; they should be aware they won't see their money again. The wife can go to a food pantry. They do look at your income. She can show the food pantry how much debt they're in.

Mine and my husband’s best friend is constantly borrowing money off of us even though he makes over $100k per year. Some months he can make $20k gross and net $10k. He’s largely self employed. He has a gambling problem and an estranged wife who literally socks ever last penny out of him. It’s a big pile of crap. My husband was awful with money when we met too. Our best friend has told me multiple times that he wants me to manage 30% of what he takes home which I’m more than happy to do for him. He just needs to start.
