I went to the dentist regularly when I was younger. When I was in my 30's, the dentist tried to talk me into doing more dental work even after microplaning, a dental implant, root canals, veneers, etc...he said it was necessary if I wanted to "keep my teeth from falling out by the time I was 50". I never went back and have only been to a dentist a few times for a cleaning. I'm 63 and still have ALL my teeth.

My mom is very particular about fine print and always made sure she never owed any taxes or received a big refund and I have always been the same. Once I was 20 I started noticing my friends excited for their tax checks that I wasn't getting which made me sad until the Ramsey show taught me that my friends are just loaning their money to the gov interest free.

Now I pay almost $300 a month for auto insurance because I didn’t have insurance for two years. The insurance industry punishes people for NOT buying their products when you eventually need it.

I agree. My parents did santa, but if I ever have kids I don't want to do santa or any of the others because it legitimately is lying to your kids. There's this stupid social pressure to keep up this long term lie to all kids under at least 10 and then you have to turn around and confess to them that santa isn't actually real and it's disappointing to those that want to believe. Thankfully I wasn't that caught up in it and I think I knew before my parents told me so it wasn't devastating to me, but I could see that being an issue for some kids and I don't want to do that to my future kids.

Here’s my 2 cents and I’ll be ducking from the tomatoes…. We have nine kids and never did the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, or Santa Claus. Most of our children are adults with wonderfully creative minds and are very artistic in things they do. They never once have told us they wish we would have done those things. Three of them have children and they don’t plan to do those things with their children. Our take is that they can’t see those things and they can’t see Jesus so what happens in their minds when you swore all those years that those things were all very real and at some point they are all fake except Jesus? We have still made the holidays magical and special and have no regrets.
@megan24783 ай бұрын
So they don't believe in anything bigger than themselves? They have no belief in anything they can't see/touch/taste? They have no faith? Your children also wouldn't ask for something they had no experience with...so if they didn't experience Santa, or the fun of it, then they wouldn't know to ask it. I have found people who do the whole "can't see it...not real" thing tend to be cynical when it comes to many things in life (if not life overall).

I understand you have to generalize when you make certain statements but maybe once in a blue moon you could throw in the caveat for those people that don't nicely fall into the average. "Do a will. It only takes 10 minutes" or my favorite, "Get term life. It's really affordable." I would like to think there are more than a few people who are following the Ramsey principles but are now at retirement age and their previous term-life policy has reached the end of its term. Getting another policy at that age is NOT affordable. Just wanted to throw that out there... (And yes, it's through Zander.)
