I worked a high end auction the other day. Out of 68 cars that we rolled through the block. Only 1 sold. An Aston Martin. There was no shortage of buyers, just that the buyers would not paythe minimum that the sellers wanted.

I looked at a 2012 Ram 2500 Cummins with 200k miles and they wanted me to believe it was a good deal for $37,000. I laughed in his face, and told him at that trim they were new off the lot for 32,000 in 2012. What a joke the car market is, just full of clowns.

To be fair I paid the 1995 retail price for my dodge ram 2500 Cummins in 1999, it had 125,000 miles and I paid $18,000. I got even with these jerks and kept it forever, it has 208,xxx miles now. 😂 Turns out the old Gen 2 ,12 Valve engine, engine is probably the best truck engine ever made. 🥰 I'm 60 now, drive it less than 1,000 miles a year, man it's going to outlive me! 🧐

If you think that's bad. 37k for a 12-year-old truck isn't terrible; it's more of a steal. I've seen one at a used dealer's lot, a 1998, 12-valve Dodge 2500 Cummins, and they wanted 43k for a 26-year-old truck. And it's not a stick either. That same truck in 1998 with the Cummins and 47RE starts at $28,000.

If people are paying $16,800 for an auction 2013 Chevy Avalanche w/88K miles... the market has definitively not bottomed out yet. I was expecting that truck to sell for about $10K or less at auction... and maybe w/a $15K-$16K sticker on a dealer lot. They would need to sell that truck for $19K+ to even sniff any money off it.

The interior is shit. That's a 5k truck all day lol what is wrong with people. My truck on nada says 19k and it's in excellent shape and imo should go for 25k. 2018 f150 3.5 eco lariat crew, max tow 160k. New Toyota open country tires, leveled. Makes no sense at all. Mine was paid in full at purchase no way I would get into another vehicle at these prices. They won't give me shit but will sell it for high price.

@jabronisrus Because look what drivetrain you have. Starting the 4k notorious cam phaser fix. The leaking turbos and no one can repair those trucks except Ford in many of cases. No one wants those outside of warranty. These Avalanches are easy to maintain and parts are reasonably available and priced. You can take it to any mechanic vs that ecoboost where no mechanics will touch outside basic things. It's like the Maserati effect the vehicles are cheap but maintaining is so high.

Tow 5 days out of the week, change oil/rotate tires every 4k and plugs 30k....still going. Beats the 1k payments idiots making these days. I run a debt free business and almost debt free life so.....

I was waiting to look at a 2000 Silverado, while waiting for the seller to get ready I stopped by a dealership nearby and saw a mild to moderately better condition 04 Silverado with 20K less miles, and extended cab, really a very pretty truck but it was $14k....thats $15 after everything...I just went and bought the truck from the private seller for $5400 and made out with a bandit and even got $500 in free new parts. Not a single other soul was at that dealership looking at anything. This is a well off part of FL as well.

I feel your pain. Only way you can get a deal at an auction these days if the unit needs over $1000 worth of work. And these big car manufacturers are basically making way over priced 1 year cars. My personal opinion of the over price issue is the big manufacturers and dealers were basically screwing ppl during covid and made alot of negative equity trade ins. I may be wrong but that's what i seem to see.

I didn't see even one car approaching anything reasonable in that auction. But the flooring costs keep going up for the dealers and the makers. They obviously know something I don't like people rush out to buy overpriced cars for Christmas instead of presents. And that mean another 6 month of no sales and mounting interest. Let's see when the bankruptcy avalanche starts. The banks won't like it either, since they'll be squeezed on the other side by the RE avalanche. Lets see how fast they can dump inventory?

You are arguably one of the most upfront believable used car dealerships out there, would love if I could tell you what I am looking for with your minimal markup and get what I am looking for. With that being said you do not deal in the price range I am looking at, not that I disagree with your philosophy on current car market, actually believe that you are spot on. The disappointing thing for me is that your thumbnails are just for clicks as the car market I am following is not coming down. ONCE YOU GET OVER 100K MILES.. value has to drop a shit ton due to all of the accessory repair (alternator/starter/power steering) and the fluids/normal 100k mile mx items. That's easily 7k or more depending on the status of the suspension etc.

I would definitely be a bar that avalanche I’d add goes high is 15 five for it. I had one when they first came out, but it brand new off the showroom floor. The local Chevy dealer went into business the next day, and I beat the daylights out of the landscape industry. When I got rid of my avalanche, it had 250,000 miles for itand it was pretty much on its last leg and I still got $2500 cash towards a ram 1500 back in the day.

I like the 400,000 mile car. "It's not worth much" Exactly. Make it roadworthy. Low insurance, no debt, license/registration will be cheap. And won't be a target for theft. - new suspension - engine overhaul - new tires All that is cheap if you do the work yourself. Cheap, old, but good. Perfect. Will not be buying an $85,000 truck, at any time, for any reason.

New car prices are so high, people aren't buying them. When they don't buy them, they don't trade in their used car. Dealers are fighting for used cars because of this and because they are lower priced than new, they actually sell. The used car maket isn't going to crash anytime soon. Simple supply and demand. New car prices will fall first. Example Stellantis, but it will take time for all those new cars to make their way into the used market.

When used trucks start costing less than what they sold for new, then i`ll start looking at them! They have 2019 F250`s selling with 100K for 62K when they sold new for 48K! People need to stop paying these prices!

I have a 2020 Hyundai ELANTRA with 37K miles on it and showroom condition. The dealer is only offering me 9000 as a trade-in. I should bring it to this auction, I could probably get 20 K for it.

The EV push will keep used vehicle prices high for the foreseeable future. Less inventory of used vehicles people want. No crash will ever happen.
