Thank you Doc great video! I am 59 y/o with a history of BPH since 54 y/o. I tried flow max,saw palmetto and finasteride. The side affects of flowmax and finasteride was awful. Well recently I start to have blood in my semen I got antibiotics MRI of the prostate everything looks good and a cystoscope. I'm on 5 mg finasteride daily for almost 3 months the headaches were bad at first. Now yes sex drive diminish a lot but,the trade off is worth it no more bleeding and my PSA numbers the lowest ever!

Can you tell me if Finasteride masks possible potential of cancer. Finasteride lowers the size of the prostate and thus reduces PSA. As PSA result is probably the initial indicator for potential cancer, can we say that Finasteride can cause nissleading PSA results, potentially masking cancer?

Does this drug cause cancer, as the warning literature given by the pharmacy states? Can this cause cancer, when prostate cancer is not present?

You are right about the side effects. I've been taking it for years. My sex drive is gone. My testicles have shrunk. I don't make sperm any more. I have muscle pains here and there, and suffer from insomnia. On the plus side, my hair stopped falling out. It also grows on every part of my body that normally doesn't get hair. My nails also need clipping every week.

as of now, I think I would be way more depressed if I became bald.... that's why I decided to take this drug today, but in low doses of 1mg..... hopefully I don't get those nasty side effects... the one that worries me most is gyno.

@@neometalx9 This drug may help you keep the hair you have. It will not grow new hair from scratch. It will also make your nails grow super fast. By the way, do you know this drug is prescribed to those who are transitioning from man to a woman? Let that sink in.

Severe breast pain also Pain the neck beside windpipe not like a sore throat. Quit the drug back to normal.

As a doctor you should stop spreading fear it is unethical, only a small number of men have these side effects. Also, you are confusing dutasteride which almost completely shuts down DHT with finasteride which leads to small increase in testosterone but still leaves DHT production to an extent.

The side effects mentioned occur in such a small % of people. Most will never experience any of these side effects. It should also be noted of the recent PCPT(Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial) trial showing a 25% reduced risk in prostate cancer when taking Finasteride.

I took it for several years. It is chemical castration. Most any drug or supplement that claims to shrink the prostate also shrinks your sex drive. After I was off of it for a couple of months I got back up to speed.

Older men don't have much testosterone in their body to start with. Why put them on Finasteride?
