Freakin Awsom I'm 80 yrs old and grew up in these cars. You know it cost under $2,000 new. I remember. I was a factory trained line mechanic for the Dealerships for GMC and Mopar. In the 60s. Great days in my life.That cable needs greased. Amazing it survived.

@@lt.columbo5919I would agree if the 55 had rusted holes and license plates for a trunk and floor pan. Spending a fortune on something that isn't cool... isn't cool. IMO turning a mint rust free 55 into a patina car is far from cool. A one owner 55 would fetch a heck of a lot of money at auction, they are up there with the 57's, and still one of the most sought after hot rods in America. There are a lot of people out there right now who would offer Paul a lot of money for the car as it sits. Every panel can be easily repaired and the bright work is complete and almost perfect. It would not take a lot of money to paint and detail this car. This 55 is a solid investment

What a great video. It brought back a flood of priceless memories. I bought my first used car at age 15. It was a 1951 chevy, with a powerglide transmission and straight 6 engine. (The 1950 and 1951 are identical body style). My best friend had a 1955 chevy Belaire, 2 door hard top, red with white paint, red interior, 265 V8, upgraded with 4 barrel carb and a 3 speed standard transmission. He replaced the ring and pinion gear with a 370 gear ratio so he could drag race on the city streets. The 3 on the column shifter was converted to a 3 on the floor shifter using a Hurst conversion kit. In 1964 we both traded up and bought 1962 Chevy's. His was 2 door hardtop Impala, 4 on the floor standard transmission, turquoise color. Mine was a 1962 chevy Impala black with red interior, convertible with a white top. I replaced the 4 barrel carb with 3 deuces, installed a 3/4 lift Duntov camshaft, welded in exhaust cutouts using 2" galvanized pipe with galvanized caps that we took off and on with channel lock pliers, and installed 370 gears (456 gears were too low range for a daily driver). I graduated high school in 1965. Thank you for helping a guy age 76 relive his high school glory days of street racing with his best friend. Your channel is awesome.

I think the stock engine in a 1955 was a 265 cubic inch. Great find!

That is correct. 283 inch did not get out till 57. 57 was also the first year any car was first made with 283 ci and 283 HP with Chevy's Fuel injection. It was not all that bad but there was next to no info on it.

Back in the day!! YES! :) I'm over 60 as well ... I bought a 1994 Chevy Step Van earlier this year, I had a deal to leave the plates and insurance valid to move it home (Hour and a Half drive) .. But the girl selling it got change her mind at the last minute after we got there (That's her right can't really blame, it's a grey area of law here) My friend was lost "What will we do?? she said" ... I told her we are doing this OLD SCHOOL! .. and just got in and drove it home no plates at all! :) Bit risky but ... we used to do it all the time Back in the Day! :)

I Bought a 56 Chevy 4 door Chevy in Birmingham AL in around 63 had to rent a tow bar to pull it home. It was advertised for 79 dollars, it did not run! My younger Brother was with me, We needed to build an engine, put a new clutch and pressure plate in it , rebuild the 3 speed trans and replace all the tires. , I drove it thru the 70s. I lent to a young lady to drive home, she lived out in the country, she hit a cow on the way and damaged the right front finder. I went to a wrecking yard to find a finder, the man wanted a hundred and fifty dollars for a beat up finder. I gave my 56 Chevy To my older brother, who had once had a 56 convertible Chevy, which he lent me to take my drivers license test years earlier. I miss the Chevy. I would love to find a nice 55 like Paul of Fad Rats!....Kunt Hamson

Perhaps you have some evidence of some of all of these pristine barn finds of yours? Hey guys, if this is a '55 stock V8, it's probably a 265 cu. in. The 283 came out later. But a rust free Tri-Five is truly a rare find, whatever's under the hood. I had a '56 two door 210 sedan with the 235 straight six and three-on-the-tree. Drove it forever! I love watching all the neat things you do!

You are absolutely correct! The ‘55 and ‘56 were 265 V8s. The 283 V8 was introduced in the ‘57 model.

I've had five '55's starting with a cherry Bel Air out of High School. Four more 210 series out of the Navy. One with a Jim Hall hypo 327 Chaparral from GM still in the crate, back-up long block for Jim Hall's race cars. He went big block, so GM sold off all the 327 back ups to various parts stores and I got one for $300. It was built to Jim Hall's specs, and it was a monster! I got pulled over by an OR state policeman, who was a gear head, just to see what kind of big block I was running in it. The waitresses on roller skates at the A&W had to hold on to the milk shake glasses when I drove around the restaurant in Richland, WA...lol!

What a cool car! I'm amazed you got it started and it ran so well after sitting so long. I think for this car, it would be nice to restore it to OEM as much as possible, and not modify it too much. BTW: That old cast-iron PowerGlide has a rear pump, which means the car can be push-started. And the shift quadrant - with L next to R on the bottom - is perfect for rocking the car back and forth when stuck in snow.

I'm so excited for you guys! My wife's grandfather gave us his 55' Buick Roadmaster 4 door and it's in really great condition. I drove it an hour out of town and back and was sweating the whole way. But those old v8's are so resilient. I love cruising around town in it. It turns heads and starts conversations.

The field method for setting V- eight points is turn the Allen screw clockwise until it misfires, then 1/2 turn counterclockwise and that leaves you in a good ballpark area. PS I worked at a car lot for many years. What a jewel!

A rust free '55 Chevy 2-door is unbelievable find this day in age...!!! That is at minimum, a $20,000 car as she shits, and probably more than that! There are guys out there that would give $50,000 for that car as she sits! You are an owner of a hot rodder's dream find. How lucky can you get?! I've owned five '55 Chevy's in my day! All 2-doors. My first was a perfect Bel Air when I was 19-years old, in 1961, that I drove to high school my senior year, in Kennewick, WA. My second one was a 210 series six, automatic in excellent shape, that I dropped a new modified Jim Hall Chevy Chaparral 400hp 327, Anson bullet proof bell housing, HD manual clutch, Corvette Muncie 4-speed, and 4:11 third member, with performance bearings and seals in the rear end. She was a Jim Hall torque monster, and did 130mph in 10.2. The new hypo 427 Vettes could not touch her. The next four '55's were show cars, mostly detailed stock cars with beautiful naugahyde upholstery. I long since sold them all, but I've always wanted another one untouched, like yours! I am green with envy! I hope you restomod it, without altering her stock form, except maybe for custom wheels and tires. My favorite wheels and tires, were red line tiger paws on 14"x 8" station wagon wheels, with stock baby 210-series hub caps with the white chevy bow tie! Low profile 17" or 18" wheels have their place, but not on a 1955 Chevy! I'd restore her original two tone cream and light green...!

Awesome video! It takes me back to the early seventies when my friends and I were doing this on a regular basis, of course then cars like this cost $20.-$50. My first decent car was a '56 two door I paid $35. and drove home without having to fix anything. You really lucked out with this one! If that is the original engine, it is a 265 as the 283 didn,t come out until 1957.

If it's the original engine, it will have a canister oil filter, instead of a spin on. It can be modified to a spin on easily.

55's did not have a oil filter ,they used a canister filter if they had one. Same as the 6 cylinder engines if so equiped.

A surviver car. Just fix what needs to be fixed. Brake job, maybe a steering box. Service the Powerglide. Definitely put it back to the factory green and white. Perfect colour combo for the 50's. Then drive the wheels off it! Enjoy the looks, and enjoy the ride.

Never blow more air into a carb fire. The carb has fuel in it, if you blow flame over the carb and gas vapors, it can be very bad. Many times I’ve pulled off my shirt and smothered out the fire when I had no better options. Be amazed how quick you can come out of a shirt when your car is on fire. First time viewer. I’m enjoying!!!

Congrats on the find! I had one when I was in high school in the 70's. I heard someone say it was a 283, if it is the original engine, it is a 265. The camshaft has a flat ground on the rear cam bearing to pass oil to the valve train. This was changed in '57 when the 283 came out. The 265 can be modified to accept a std cam by connecting the 2 holes in the rear camshaft bearing. Again, congrats

I looked at the valve cover and could tell it is a 265 by the way the bolt holes are staggered

Fun fact, the same 55 that Harrison Ford drove in “American Graffiti” was also used in the movie “Two Lane Blacktop”. I believe the rear axle on that car was also moved forward on that car gasser style

Was just coming here to mention 2LBT. Am not as familiar with it as I am American Graffiti. An axle was definitely moved in American Graffiti, right out the back of Holsteins cruiser 😂😂
