I travelled with Chas and Marianne and new baby daughter for the whole world championship season in 1971.. Great Times never to be forgotten with lots of humour and light hearted view of life...

Saarinens accident at Monza obviously had a big effect on Chas. I'll never forget the photo on the MCN front page of a fireball with obviously a lot of carnage behind it and a single bike coming out of it, that was Chas. In an interview he said "I just closed my eyes and kept going till I came out of the flames". I brought his Maxton TZ350 in 82 via the great engine builder Roger Keene who I spent a lot of time with - as did every other TZ rider at the time. I never earned enough to buy a small house but I probably spent enough to have brought one. A great interview with a lovely man, just wish he'd have spoken a bit more about my hero Saarinen who he must have known well. One of the odd highlights of my life was working with (I'm a physio now) the grand daughter of Jarno's godfather. Another was meeting Phil Read who judged and presented the trophies at the Brands racing school star pupil event in 79. I came second, (only because Geoff Brookbain said "if you slow down and concentrate on your lines you'll win it"), Grrr! The winner got some sponsorship and bought an ex Kenny Roberts 250, I got a bank loan and bought an ex Patric Fernandez 350, which I crashed - far too often. Funny old world (EDIT: if you guys are looking for a physical therapist for the team, I'm the best there is and that'd be another weird coincidence to add to the list being as YT just threw this at me out of nowhere!)

I was watching the 125 TT at the Goose Neck in 1971 when Chas passed Barry Sheene right at that point the weather was absolutely terrible, Chas was a very good TT rider and does not get enough mention.

Funny, if I saw that dude in say the Dallas Airport, I'd never guess he was such a hard charging, bad-ass 500gp winner 🏆🏍 ! Don't judge a book by its cover 😉 .

Great memorable stories ✌️ There are old videos with squeaky voiced Chas being interviewed. I started collecting and selling out of print motor books because of His father's book " The Constant Search" . Great interview 👍👍 New Hampshire 🇺🇲☮️

would be very interesting to see a discussion about why the UK are unable to produce any World Class riders. Not one GP winner between '82 and cal in about '19 ! and not even one rider now. While Spanish families have 4 !! My opinion is that the UK has lost its way, with no Spirit or ambition. Its the same with my other passion of Ocean Racing, the World leaders now being all French.
