Samuel, I'm 62 and I recognise myself in every word. Perfectionism and imposter syndrome got me big time for the majority of my life. You're also right about the deadlines, they eventually get me going and finish things. Approaching the fall of my life, it became this deadline where the awareness of a finite end at some point doesn't leave too much headroom to procrastinate. I've read many of Seth Godin's books and find him very inspiring. Your video is a new kick in the but and I'll keep getting back to it in search for support to just ... ship. I'm a musician of 40+ years in business who'd love to share his love for acoustic slide guitar to the world. Just for the joy of sharing and carrying the torch of this very niched playing style. I started livestreaming this year to overcome the fear of talking into the camera, but the leap over to recorded videos is still overwhelming.

Today I decided to be disciplined with my time and talents. I do not think it was a coincidence that I watched this video of yours today. Thank you for your thoughts. You have helped me know I am not the only one who has and probably will continue to struggle with being disciplined.

Samuel, I say this with all the sincerity of the world... your video just changed my life. Every word you said, felt like it was meant for me. I haven't felt so identified in my entire life. Discipline has always been a struggle for me, because of my perfectionism, and I always procrastinated because of it. Thank you so much for uploading, and I thank the KZbin algorithm for putting you on my home page. I literally told my parents about it, because it's true, you really have inspired me to be a better person. I appreciate it so much. I won't miss an upload, it's so good to have you back! - Angélica

As a 51-year-old who has stumbled and stumbled and stumbled, but also succeeded more times than failed, this video spoke volumes to me. I struggle to recall my victories, and many of the victories I personally considered failures (despite all signs to the contrary). As a result, over the years I've become progressively more selective in projects I take on (thus, perfectionism), which has netted fewer and fewer finished projects and wins. Thank you for making and releasing this video. You stopped me in my tracks this morning.

Samuel, I am very similar and your videos especially on how you take notes and use your i pad changed my approach to uni. I used that enthusiasm and love for learning. I went from a passing student to a distinction level and I always show people your videos when they ask how I did it. You have a gift at making videos and communicating your thoughts, please don’t give up.

You are so right! I want it to share with you something I heard from a Spanish sphycologist, she said - More reaches the one who has will than the intelligent. With "will" I mean with commitment, perseverance, constance, in Spanish the word is "voluntad", but don't know how to translate it. Just look at all this guys in youtube who post only stupit things, but they are committed and keep posting. I encourage you to keep being committed, because I feel so much like you. I have a KZbin channel that I haven't touched since 5 years ago, not only that, but I removed the old videos one day because I thought they weren't good enough and I want it to do better contain. And now I am a busy mum and wife and can't get even time to do everything I have to do. So yes, start from now and keep always some time where you won't let anyone take that time from you, just to do that thing that you know will blesses at least that one person, And thanks for the post, it really encouraged me ☺️

Dear Samuel, I am a third year biology student. I don't comment much on KZbin, but I needed to post this comment to you. Over the past few years I have had ups and downs in my career but you have inspired me to take better notes, to find myself learning again and not memorizing concepts and having a real passion and not focusing on my grades and not being enough. I love your content and every time I watch your videos and I feel sad or broken, they encourage me to keep going. Thank you !!!! You don't know how much you mean to me.

@@debjithazra245Updating this comment, I have already graduated from my degree. I still often feel inadequate (I would have liked to have a better overall grade in my degree), and I still find it challenging to balance my artistic passion with the sciences. However, I am in a slow process of changing that and gradually developing in both areas. Right now, I am starting a master's degree, and I continue to have a genuine interest in learning more, not for the grade but for myself.

At a deeper level, I finally understand why I love your videos. Like minded people recognize and appreciate the efforts behind even the finer aspects of each work. Going through a similar phase in my life and read somewhere recently, that when we think of purpose we think of great things like finding a cure for cancer.. But sometimes our purpose is as simple as a smile we gave to the stranger, which in turn made their day...and in today's world, I feel if we can genuinely care for other people and wish them the best while keeping our integrity intact, that itself is a superpower! More power to you brother!

Man this video had a different effect than anticipated! I cried to say the least😂 Your summary of yourself and the characteristics that hold you back was a copy / paste of myself. I’m your age. I had to do a detour in life (atleast in society’s sense) after school to focus on my own health. I’ve been struggling with «getting back to life» now that I’m feeling better and have struggled alot with finding what I wish to do next, and how. (Circled back to perfectionism etc.) Your message resonated and gave me a new perspective. Know that your contribution is NOTICED and you absolutely do make a difference. Thank you for this. All the love bro! Wish you the best in life!

I identify so much with this video because this is exactly my situation. I project all my self doubt in the form of perfectionism. I hold myself to ridiculously high (some times impossible) standards and feel like a complete failure when I can’t rise to them. I hated my college years because between my ADD and my perfectionist tendencies I was depressed all the time and felt like I didn’t deserve any of my high school achievements. This is something that I need to get rid of because it is crippling. In my mind if I cannot complete something that meets my high standards I might as well not even try.

It’s also easier… we are not something and we are not set in stone. I never understood what people meant with “this is who I am”. We choose who to be and how to live and what to do with our time. We can be one thing one day and another thing another day and we are that. If you think of who you were two years ago, you’ll notice changes in how you used to think or do and the further back you go the more changed you will realise you are today. So, yes, perfectionism is bad but most people blaming perfectionism is just another way of coping with setting that goal aside and it then becomes easier to “forgive” ourselves for never having done it. Nike’s motto might be one of the simplest but also one of the best ever created: Just Do It !

This was perfect timing. I just came back from school and we had this lesson where people would share how they'd feel to others, how they felt and there personality. I didn't get anything, but I did help another(at least I hope). I went back home devestated because no-one did something for me(Its sounds demanding but I barely get any attention whatsoever). But having watched this video, it helped me realise that I did contribute in making something happen, making someone happy. Thank you.

Looking forward to your book sharing titled "The Practice. Shipping Creative Work". Written by Seth Godin. You're off to a good start with the analogy of a drowning toddler. And... ty for the great and generous advice given💝 👍"We have the opportunity to make a contribution. To show up with the intention to serve others. To help someone else in everything that we do" 👍"When i look at who i am, the skills that i have, with what has been given to me, the past experience and lessons that i have learnt along the way, i have the opportunity to serve someone... at least someone's day could be better" 👍Don't let our insecurities to dull our sparkle or as an excuse to not extend a helping hand even if it may seem to impact an individual or a small group of people.

Samuel, great video and subject matter man! If I may add to your list a topic for your next video... You make artistic videos with production, sound and light. How about a video showing us your KZbin video thought process? I think it can be several series and you can show us your perspective art, what equipment you think you need, how you go about the sound and audio that make them special, your script writing process. I'm sure this will inspire many of us and also open up commercial opportunity from the products you endorse. Keep it up dude...I'm enjoying the quality and the extra time you spend making creative videos. 👍🏼

I dont know how, but Samuel, you and I are very much alike! I mean I am just in my undergrad right now, but looking at this video, looking at you talk about how you function, made me feel like I am seeing myself, just an older version. All my friends and professors know I am a perfectionist, but I too am struggling with it. I try my best to bring in that extra effort in all my projects and presentations. I do whatever it takes at times, but the very next moment, I maybe binge watching a show on Netflix or watching some movies back to back 😂. Its the same. I didn’t know why I relate to you so much but I guess now I know why. Thank you so much for this one.
