16 year-old Becky is mum to 14 month old Kenzie. Tragically, when Kenzie was just seven months old his 16 year-old dad died suddenly in his sleep. As a result, Becky has found it difficult bonding with Kenzie as he is a constant reminder of her ex-partner.
Becky struggles to look after Kenzie by herself, feels alienated from her friends and with little social life her dreams of meeting a new man seem remote. Can Mum Trish persuade Becky to get out more? And will she find love - and a father figure for Kenzie?

I think she needs some serious therapy and help to bond with her baby. Obviously, people deal with death and they morn in their own (special) way, so I can’t really say she is wrong for feeling the way she feels BUT she needs help to channel that “anger” or her feelings in general in a healthy way, for her, her child and the rest of the family.

@@lapatti stop it… It’s her fault that she had a baby… We need to stop making excuses for people. She had a choice and ultimately she chose to have the baby. She had a choice to either keep the baby, give the baby up for adoption, or have an abortion… She chose to keep the baby, so if you are adult enough to make that decision, then you have to step up and raise the child and raise the child properly… If you can’t do that, give your child up for adoption. She definitely needs counselling. She's only a child herself coping with being a single mom. She must feel so scared and lonely even with her mother around. If she doesn't deal with these issues she might fall into depression again if things go wrong with the people in her life. I really believe she needs to realise that she's stronger than she thinks, even on her own

Because she was clearly depressed and struggling with the death of her baby’s father, therefore a new boyfriend was a happy distraction. When you’re happier in yourself and not as depressed, your attitude, patience and motivation improves. As a teen mom I couldn't give my daughter the things she deserved, not to mention the fact her dad bailed on me the second I told him...most boys do leave so it's always the girls responsibility to grow up fast!

This is what happens when someone is suffering with depression, grief, postal depression etc people use the stigma that mothers should be happy all the time and that is what pushes depression furthers until a life is gone. We should be teaching that it's ok not to be ok, that it's ok to cry, be upset etc she needs time for her mental health that doesn't mean you self-absorbed because you feel the way you do.

Hang in felicity cat lady one day your gonna have what your wanting in gods time. Trust me I was told at 12yrs and my parents due to some bad things happened that I'd never have any babies. Well I turned 25 and I got pregnant but it was a very hard pregnancy and my boy had some heart issues and stomach and intestinal issues but I've got him and hes awesome and hes going on 19yrs in July!! It was tough when hes an infant and as a child due to some the health issues but hes awesome to this day. He works 10 12 14 hr days graduated with honors from high school and want s to be into auto mechanics. He will cuz my boy will make it and he will succeed in life. Keep your head up if cant have by normal means try to adopt or even do foster parenting that helps so much your not even know. Some people out there do foster care for wrong reasons. Money is not a reason its love and all that which is needed and someone who has a true heart to love and guide a child the right way and show them how to be in this world. Love em. Peace I'm out ! @__________________________7455

This is the advice I would give one of my own teenagers, and I am passing on to you. Trust those who have your best interests at heart, who have walked down paths in life you have yet to experience. You have no idea how rocky that path can become sometimes. Why place yourself in an position to get pregnant when you are not even in a position to provide for yourself financially. Ideally, it would be 100% guaranteed you don't get pregnant if you abstain from sex. Realistically, you are not going to do that. So know condoms alone are not effective, and no form of birth control is 100% guaranteed. So use as many layers of protection as you can, which then further cuts down on your risks of pregnancy. Make an appointment with Planned Parenthood, to explore other birth control methods. There can be emotional damage and fallout from having sex too prematurely. It's not that you don't value yourself, but I don't think teenagers have a clear enough idea of exactly what it means. Counseling is a excellent way to get more clarity on this. We as humans naturally have sexual desires. We also have desires for food, but we can't overindulge ourselves without negatively impacting our lives. Sex is the same way. You can negatively impact yourself emotionally, because having sex for you, might not mean the same thing, or done for the same reasons as the person(s) you are sleeping with. Keep in mind, since birth control is not 100% effective, than personally, I would take time to get to know as a person , the male(s ) I sleep with who could potentially wind up being the father of my child. This might give you a reality check, because the boys you sleep with are not ready to take on like you, the financial and other responsibilities of parenthood suddenly thrust upon them. Having clear plans and goals , activities , and interests really helps to keep you focused on more than sex.

I feel for some of these girls, doesn't anyone ever give them their options when they find themselves pregnant? I swear the UK has some kid of love affair with pregnant girls. Becky obviously struggles with her son and will for a while to come. She is only happy if she is part of a couple, which is quite damaging.

sandcastles73 Of course the girls have options keep the child , adoption and abortion. They don’t have to keep the baby if they don’t want to. We also have sex education in primary and secondary school but there will always be girls who are uneducated or just young and dumb and don’t expect to end up pregnant and then you have the small amount who want to become mums at a super young age

Kinda put off by how her motivation and attitude seem to stem from being in a relationship. I just don’t feel a sense of independence from her, like she’s just given up on everything, unless there’s a man in the picture. What’s going to happen if they break up? She needs to go to therapy to address everything she’s been through. Being a teenage mom, the baby daddy’s death, difficulty bonding with the child, self confidence issues... that’s a lot to take on and she owes it to herself and her son to get it together and get on with life.

Becky doesn’t deserve that sweet child. I understand she’s depressed because Kenzie’s father isn’t there anymore but that gives her no right to treat that baby the way she did. He goes to daycare 5 days a week, she spends no time with him and then complain she’s tired and needs a break from her son. She only started spending time with Kenzie because she got a new man, but what happens when they breakup? Will she go back to not being able to stand the sight of her son? Kenzie didn’t ask to be here, he deserves his mother’s love and attention whether she’s single do dating

People need to rememeber, she's still very young her herself. She has just been through the biggest life event, giving birth and at such a young age. Then having her babies dad die so young adding to post natal depression, I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to be cold with Kenzie, she's struggling a lot. It's sad to see so many comments saying she doesn't deserve the baby because all I see is a teenager trying to handle two huge life events in the space of months, I've known adults who can't cope after giving birth, never mind being 16 and losing your partner. She's happier now she's with a new boyfriend because being with him makes her feel like she has a future to look forward to. She's lucky to have her mums support.
