I've never heard of making an offer on a rental property. Normally you make an offer on a property you are buying, not renting. For a rental property the rent should be advertised. If they are offering the property to whoever offers the highest rent it sounds like a scam and is illegal in the UK so be very wary.

@@normabead.9600 Yes financial checks are fine but it is illegal for the landlord to charge more than the advertised rent in the UK.

it's not a scam unfortunately, although I also wish it wasn't real! banning rental bidding is in the new renters rights bill which will hopefully be passed next summer in the UK, so fingers crossed, because it's horrible!
