wow, thats epic indeed! A roman coin is a personal bucket lister offcourse, -I have never found one myself, its not common at all in Norway. And the gold coins the others found... as you might remember a gold coin is my number 1 bucket lister. This is not an event that happens very often, in fact this has only ever happened once in 10 years for me! You would need to be metal detecting here every weekend for months and months. To succeed in this hobby, it demands huge amounts of hard work and time away from your family

So all them gold coins came out of the same hole…. The hole wasn’t deeper then the plough goes… so in 300 years I wonder how many times that field has been ploughed …….? Would all them coin still be in such close proximity. 🤷‍♂️

Hi I use a Deus2, but I used to use the ORX. I only ever used the Coin Fast program. That metal detector is still my most successful machine finding me 4 gold coins and the gold fob seal

You pulled up 20 Roman coins on that "Hotspot" between you? Will you blokes never learn, once you find what you think is a hoard you are meant to stop, report and wait for professional recovery, Professional field archaeologist's were on site and could have been with you within minutes, although the gold hoard was miles from site the professionals were there within 10 minutes of the call, depth recorded, location recorded, soil samples taken, photos taken and the hole dug to industry standards You do realise that you do not own the coins in a hoard? The Crown does, you need to report this find within 14 days to the Coroner, odds on bet that you have not taken a grid reference or a "What 3 words" of the find? Recorded depths? Taken soil samples for the report? Of course you didn't. Can you even remember which field it was in? The bloke who found the gold hoard reported straight away and will be rewarded by the Crown tax free. Not reporting a hoard to the Coroner within 14 days is a criminal offence, even if you do now report it there is a good chance that your reward will be decreased due to your lack of due dilligence There is so much going on behind the scenes with people trying to support detectorists and get them reconised with the academic archaeologists' and then the ill informed remove hoards in situ and try and dig their finds with mini breakers. It is such a shame that a few give a bad name for the many If I was you I would contact your FLO as soon as possible. And we wonder why metal detecter users get such a bad name.

I should add it took me 8 hours to find 5 coins. My friends found several others too yes. These were spread out over hundreds of meters. I'm quite sure other people would have picked up a couple too over the 2 days. We know the field and the area we found them, but as there was no pot or concentration, then there was no reason to report this. Plenty of other people found hot spots and found a lot more than I did. Just means there was Roman activity there. The thumbnail and title to this video are simply to attract views

@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire If you would have reported this the recovery team would have found the pot if there was one, who knows it could have been half full of silver coins and you would have had the reward for those as well. Coins spread out over hundereds of metres does not make a hot spot does it? Incidently the Treasure Act does not take time to find coins from a hoard into concideration and the fact that others "may have picked up a couple too" suggests that there may have been a hoard there. Most coin hoards are recovered by archaeologists' without the finder originally seeing the pot, coin spread being the reason for reporting.

Hey there Bobby, thanks as always for tuning in and checking out this episode. Those Roman coins have been in distilled water for 6 weeks, took them out recently to try to clean further. They really are in incredible condition. Debating whether or not to wax them?! What's your thoughts?

@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire Hey thanks for getting back matey... On waxing? - that's a really well-timed Q for me as it happens... I recently tested Arteseal on an old Ed Vii Penny (in great condition). I liked the results initially -but now, every time I look at it, it seems more like an 'showy artefact' than a coin. Ya know - kindov 'too glossy' What I'd say tho', is that: at least it'll preserve the coin, plus (in the case of Arteseal), it's also removeable... 🤓 Lots to consider really eh Gareth? plus I'm sure you can get a more matte finish if you know what yer doing?... ANyways, thanks as ever - and best o' luck with the coins and the channel... B. :).

@UkuleleBobbyKemp I did a video on Arteseal a while back. I had the same verdict, wasn't a fan of shiney glossy 'wet' look. I found it also darkened the item I coated. My preference is Renaissance Wax, it provides a much more 'age' like look and just looks so much more real and authentic
