EPIC! Never seen a trout caught on a dead-bait like that. Beast! Well done mate!

Haha I couldn’t believe my eyes!! I had a wee look into it and Apparently it happens from time to time with mackerel baits, I had trout oil in my bait so I think that might have been a factor but who knows!

Great video of a great trout m8!!!! I have learned a "little trick" from my eastern European friends when using Mackrel as bait. I cut it into ( tad oversized ) slices, put a doubled up newspaper in a plastic bag, put the slices on and use a fair amount of table salt on them, put this in the fridge over night and the salt will take the water out but leave the oils in the bait. This will make the baits last for a lot longer, make them a lot more "sturdy", easier to bait and not fall apart on the second or third day of fishing. Then afterwards oyu can freeze the leftover bait for later use.

Great capture and well done on the quick release. Lovely bit of water and a great time of year to fish it before the weed takes hold. I'll need to get up there myself in winter sometime.

Why would you want to take a fish that size home? They taste like crap.Take some advice from an experienced fisherman and only kill the fish around 1lb, they taste better and yhere are alot more plentiful.

how did you learn fishing? I live in north east scotland and trying to get into fly fishing, wondering if you were self taught?
@DaibhidhBiy2 жыл бұрын
My dad showed me the basics of how to cast a fly when I was younger but you really can teach yourself, KZbin’s a great teacher these days! I would say the most important things for trout fishing are to ensure you have a floating fly line and rod that are you the same weight rating so that they will cast correctly, and the correct leader length(at least 9ft). It can be tough at times to start but with a bit of local knowledge about what flies work in your area (and perseverance) you’ll be heading in the right direction!!
@gavinstuart67042 жыл бұрын
@@DaibhidhBiy I have bought a 9'5 rod along with some nymphs, and I've read up on how to pair a rod with the weight of the fly line etc, just need to practise some of the knots! Where do you apply for fishing permits? Ive watched some of your videos on quite few lochs and was wondering if there's a particular website or if you need to find out who the land owner is? Thanks man!
@DaibhidhBiy2 жыл бұрын
@@gavinstuart6704 does your rod have the weight rating on it? I like a 7weight for as a bit of a do it all rod trout, usually if I’m going somewhere new I’ll just google the name of the loch/river and go from there!

@@DaibhidhBiy I have a 5 weight, as apparently that’s the most versatile so I went with what the Internet told me haha, so I’ll need to pair this with a 5 weight line also?

@kingkompany59082 жыл бұрын
@@scotland.is.magical528 It is 100% a ferox. And clearly a fish that has skipped spawning that winter given it's condition - something not uncommon in ferox. The big head thing is an myth, it's perfectly normal for ferox trout to attain huge size whilst remaining proportionate in shape. In any case, the size and shape of the head of this fish has all the hallmarks of a fish that has switched diet.

Great trout, but you've probably killed it by leaving the run so long that you've deep hooked it, and leaving the hooks in the fish!! 🤦🏼♂️ Get a net and a mat too, rather than using your coat as a mat

@@DaibhidhBiy went back unable to feed as you left a pair of treble hooks in its throat? 🙄 Honestly man that's a poor excuse, I was 16 when I started piking in 2005, but I did my research beforehand with books and was well equipped from the start
@DaibhidhBiy Жыл бұрын
I agree with your comment but I cut the trace half way and the back treble was the one I left in the fish and it had not been swallowed into the stomach. Not something I would do now but at the time I was trying to take other factors into account like me having caught the fish already. To round up, yes it was not by the book and I know this but be nice 😂
