Sea Trout Tactics | Fly Fishing | Scotland

With the Start of the new Sea Trout season, We ventured to the cold water sea lochs on the West of Scotland in search of Sea Trout on the fly! Both of us were rewarded, altogether 3 Sea trout landed and of coarse released to fight another day, if you have never caught one on the fly rod before it is a definite MUST!! Lots of fun!! The Notorious Yellow Dancer fly is what we used to catch all of the sea trout in this film! Hopefully you guys enjoy the video. 🤘🏻🎣

Ah brilliant . Actually not more than a week ago this guy told me he caught 4 just about that spot mentioning the river . Great video giving us hope . Yeep on the fly well played .

Thanks mate, really appreciate that, and it’s not too far from Kilcreggan, and for temperature mate, it was absolutely freezing, I ended up just taking my fingerless gloves off towards the end as I could not literally move my fingers 😂😂 Well worth it tho mate 😃

Hi Stiofain, really appreciate that, I personally use floating line, and for the leader length I use roughly about 7 feet of either 4Ib or 6Ib mono, personal preference of coarse, hope this helped 😁🎣

Hi Brian, really appreciate the feedback, and yes mate you only need the Clyde Estuary permit for this area, Tickers Tackle in Helensburgh can supply the permit as well as quality flies too, hope this helps, and tight lines, maybe see you on the shoreline at some point 🤘🏻🎣

What WT rod and lines for this style of fishing mate ? 9 foot - 6weight rod or something heavier? you using intermediates or sinking lines? I've started to meet a lot of sea trout here in Ireland while Bass fishing in estuaries on stuff like kilty catchers, savage gear seekers etc. up to 3/4 pounds Have fishing rivers on the fly for sea trout, never estuaries wouldn't mind trying one of those yellow dancers for them but my fly gear is extremely light ( 8 foot 6 - 3 wt so will have to buy a kit

Hi mate, the one we are both using is 7/8 wt spooled with floating line, I find it a nice weight to be honest but personal preference of coarse, and for the yellow dancer fly it honestly performs really well here on the west of Scotland for sea trout! There’s a chance of bass here when fishing for sea trout, but not as common, I would love to hook into a bass on the fly rod, would be amazing

How do you clean your lines of salt water or is in not required?

Hi William I normally use hot soapy water in a bucket and try clean the the reel and the line as best as I can after every session preferably 😁

Been watching a few of your videos mate tried the bombarder with fly yesterday at few marks at garelochead, helensburgh then loch fyne upto furnance and back down stopped at 6 maybe 7 marks got one mackrel was gutted but first attempt at them what are the spinners ur using as seem deadly cheers

Hi Barry thats really unlucky, You covered a lot of area there mate, totally surprised you didn’t get a bar of silver! If I remember correctly the winds were quite high yesterday? Maybe it was discolouring the water maybe? And I usually have 12 gram super sprats and savage gear seekers with me when I’m targeting them on lures! I quite like blue and silver on the super sprats and green or white on the seekers, but any colour will work, if the sea trout are there they will hit anything they think looks like a baitfish 😁 Hope this helps Barry, thanks for watching too mate 🤘🏻

Hi mate, this is just a Greys lance 7wt with a behemoth reel, intended for fresh water, but I always clean it well after salt water sessions, casts beautifully 😁
