Being a state which contains so many locations of prominence and status, it's rather difficult to truly find hidden gems in Florida when even your perceived "off the beaten path" destination choices are teeming with tourists from all over. To solve this problem I introduce you all to the Forgotten Coast, a small region of the Florida panhandle where the last vestiges of coastline lie peacefully without any hotels and parking lots to take up all the breathing room. It's amazing to notice how quiet yet endearing the small town of Apalachicola is, serving as a historical reminder of what Florida used to be, a sleepy backwoods of the southeast. Before the giant tourism monster awoke and engulfed the state's overall spirit, coastal towns like these were simple fishing villages dotted along the mighty Gulf of Mexico. As a result, the tradition lends itself to the present day that you are easily able to be served some delicious fried seafood across a great assortment of local authentic restaurants, exactly what you might crave in this hot and humid environment. Although modern cities like Orlando, Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville have sprung up and snatched away the attention from the smaller, sadly dying towns afar, the original beating heart of Floridian culture still remains true, clean from the cultural blemishes doled out to popular tourist attractions, right here on the Forgotten Coast. Join me to enjoy today's adventures in Apalachicola, a wonderful one-off from the otherwise cheesy appeal of Florida!

Although I wish you the best in finding any desired accommodations without payment, almost nothing is offered to be free in the state of Florida. You could try and see if the Apalachicola National Forest right outside of this area permits off grid camping, that’d be my first choice to look
