Thank you! This was just the reminder I needed this morning. Being “unequally yoked” is HARD. Especially with kids. But I know that the only way to find joy and success in any marriage is to find my joy and my peace in my Savior. He alone is the living water.

Ok just started this video and already know I’m going to love it. I said haaah right before he said “and the Hebrew term for that is..” and I don’t even have kids. P.S. I had a dirt pile to play with as a kid. (Every kid should have one) My siblings and I would run around barefoot until mom would call us back inside. Such a great way to grow up and we are fine.

I am newly married, and my husband and I watched this video! It was funny and edifying, I love the idea of our spouse is not the problem nor the solution, and the illustration with the mug and pouring. I know it is self explanatory in some ways, the concept that we need to depend of God as the source, but it would be super helpful to dive into that aspect of this message, what does it look like to get our fill from God instead? Practical advice on this would be helpful! Part 2? 😬😬🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏 thank you for blessing us

We are a society who blames our parents for our lives and actions.
@Lifetimelearningisbrave2 ай бұрын
It’s a very observable fact that maladaptive coping mechanisms, childhood trauma, secret family addictions, neglect, abuse, lies, lack of trust, poor parental relationship dynamics, gaslighting in families and developmental needs not being met will AFFECT a child’s life. To pretend and gaslight yourself that this isn’t an observable Truth maybe you could see it plainly in “those other families” that fail their responsibility of meeting the most basic of needs of their kids or farm them out to less qualified people. If you as parents fail to work out the shortcomings in your life your kids carry that cross into their lives. Telling your kids those failing is not good enough…as modeling a daily behavior gets into their soul and if you have too much shame or denial to admit your failing then honey, hate to break it to you, but the problems your kids have later in life will start to loook very familiar to you if you are able to be honest (if they even tell you about then as most hide it from families that take no responsibility for their tribe failings) Blaming parents after 23 years old and not taking on the burden of the maladaptive skills and unintended consequences of our parents mistakes keep us stuck in generational dysfunction but pretending these adults are just blaming their parents for nothing is hilarious. Amends are needed from parents in mass as our children become adults. Nobody “does it perfectly” so to again gaslight these adults who suffer now is just another slap in these adult children’s face telling them THEY alone are the problem and not daddy’s secret porn addiction or him avoiding the family using work as the excuse or mommy ignoring problems for her comfort cuz she didn’t like conflict. Denying the reality of modeling being the real teacher so if you see issues with your kids…own it in yourself or the lack of skills YOU failed to teach them as they had a different brain that require a parent to SEARCH for a different way. but the rose colored glasses only seeing the positive and the denial of the fact that being a parent we inflicts damage to our kids in our anger, our needing to be right, our inability to stay humble or our inability to stand against insanity of the other parent and us just being human ALSO prevents growth.

True. But I would like to acknowledge the part they played in who I became. As an adult I see just what actions and choices I made primarily because of the things I learnt from my parents. They aren't to blame for my life and actions but they sure did influence them in a way. I say that because we are influenced by those we are closest to.

How does this all.work when the spouse is a habitual liar and gaslighter? 30 yrs laster after being busy raising babies, working like crazy to go from poverty to lower-middle class and I'm realizing the person I gave all my prime years to, grandfather of 4 cannot stop lying and and gaslighting! Almost in his 60s!?!?!

@tbh52-7, we're sorry you're going through a difficult time. Unfortunately, we’re not able to provide counseling by email, text messaging, or through social media channels. We’ve found that writing or texting isn’t an effective way of offering advice when complex or serious life issues are involved. As an alternative, we encourage you to speak about your situation with one of our counselors (at no cost to you). Just contact us at 1-855-771-HELP (4357) weekdays from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. (MT). The Family Help Center staff member who answers the phone will arrange for a counselor to call you back. One of them will be in touch just as soon as they’re able. You may also request a callback by visiting our Counseling Consultation & Referrals page - bit.ly/3olAU3N. We hope this is helpful. -Luna H
