How do you know that note wasn’t written by the woodworm trying to avoid more treatment?

The notes I usually leave are either drawings of willys or my name and date.

If I have to take up a floor,(or ceiling down) I always draw a 1:1 diagram of any pipework/electric cables that are hidden underneath directly on the floor.(obviously only if the floorboards are going to be covered over again- if they aren't I'll draw a little diagram of the layout and leave it in a plastic wallet by the consumer unit as well) I also include what they are (gas/central heating etc) and depth from the top of the joists. Saves anyone in the future putting a nail/screw into something they shouldn't. Over the top I know but makes fault finding etc so much easier, and over time you end up with a plumbing/wiring schematic of the property.

Could not agree more, its something I've done for years. Safe gaurds you against client call backs for mistakes of others, client states "you shouldn't have put cables/pipes there" and trying to explain politely that the fault lies elsewhere but I can quote you for the repairs. 😂

Do it always; label pipe runs on floors, junction boxes, date modifications etc, but I come from another industry where EVERYTHING has to be labelled.. all the way down to plugs on kit.

I am a retired electrician. When I used to repair office lights and replaced a ballast in a fixture, I would always mark the date and my Initials on the new ballast so that in the future anyone working on the fixture would know how long the replacement ballast lasted and who did the work from my shop. I took care of high rise buildings in a major US City when I still lived in the US. If I ever had to work on the same fixture again years down the road it was interesting to see how the new ballast held up. Initialing them was a mark of taking pride in doing a job right.

👍same with electrical schematics, plumbing line tags, electrical mains, foundation & roof treatments. Also keep a physical file , with contact details of the contractor/service provider. Also record/indicate where the file is, so you don’t have to search for it, when you need it.

Interesting !.... About 12 years ago my son asked if I could put in a water supply to a new American fridge freezer?...Could i do that while he went away on Holiday?. Sure I said. The day he went away round to his house and thought okay pipe would go where and looked at the skirting and the floor next the Freezer now the floor was bouncy (for want of a better way to put it). Peeled back the Lino floor and stuck my finger on the wooden floor. My finger went right through the floor this was in his back kitchen. Hymm i thought not good peeled back the floor covering and every part of the wooden floor had woodworm it was infested (must have been for a while). Decided to rip out floor in kitchen along with kitchen units ( Within and behind the worktop the chipboard had woodworm not supposed to survive in the glue that binds the worktop together) Years ago they used wooden shims to level up joist the shims had woodworm. Ripped out living room as well that was infested. Ripped down plaster board in first floor ceiling throughout the house to check and that was ok thank goodness. When he came back from Holiday two weeks later he had a new house all but a new kitchen better they pick that one for themselves. (bit of a shock but there you go) Seen some woodworm in my time but never like that... Read a story that a lady had woodworm and got the woodworm company in to treat the house. Seems they pulled a lot of infected timber out and treated what they could. The lady had a wooden horse /rocking horse a family heirloom sort of and she could not throw it away for sentimental reasons. the lady put it in the garage while the treatment was going on ....apprrox 3 month later woodworm again seems she reintroduced the woodworm via the wooden horse /rocking horse. As someone as said in the comments "Frass" .."fine powdery refuse or fragile perforated wood produced by the activity of boring insects"

It's a great idea, and something my dad suggested I do a few years back. He said that all vehicles have a log book/service history, so why don't houses/buildings? Makes sense really when you see it. Another great video mate!

Cant remember where in england it was or it could be an urban myth but the they built a cathedral or church and then planted a woods full of oak trees ready to replace the oak 500 years later if needed. May be a tall story but thats forward thinking.

I am not at all sure Ronseal Total Wood Preserver is the right product to be used on a ‘live infestation’ and is more of a preventative measure for new non infected wood to deter the little blighters. To kill off an infection probably best using Boron Ultra 12.

Ever do much levelling of old floors? Mine are a bit, as they say in NZ, 'pissed'. Not sure if I want to get into it or if it's a job best left for what passes for 'professionals' here.

There are videos on here claiming treatment doesnt work. Does it work or not, as I'm undecided whether to treat or re-roof my garage due to woodworm in the joists.
@heriothandyman31483 жыл бұрын
gbwildlife uk you get really good guarantees with professional treatments (20-30 years) so you don’t have a lot to lose. If it doesn’t work, you can get them back. I’ve just found wood worm in my house, 17 years after previous treatment. Underwriter for guarantee has just coughed up. However professional doesn’t cost the earth, maybe £700-1000 for large attic.
@gbwildlifeuk82693 жыл бұрын
@@heriothandyman3148 thanks never thought of that. Might cost the same as the new roof but avoid the work, (doimg it myself). Then just get it mineral felted.

the life cycle of the CFB larva is four years and it is not until they are ready to pupate do they move to the outer edges of the timber ready for flight. The wood treatment only affects the outer edger of the timber. This treated wood then makes the CFB sterile and unable to further populate. For this reason it is usual for flight holes to appear many years after treatment.
