I have been thinking. When I make music I go by the rule to never use preset squences or arps because then I did not come up with the melody. The plugin makers did. Here we have a gray area for me. Violins playing, but it's kind of a blend between melody and texture. If someone asks "Did you make this score?" what is the correct answer? 🤔

It's an interesting question and the simple answer is, Trails doesn't contain any melodically driven content. The textures contained within largely do not switch their root note (bar 'Reflections'- which is more of a turn than melodic). In the video above, you will see Alex playing melodic content and manipulating it in his granular synthesiser which shows off his style of composing. I regret that our home studio electronic systems have all become so "proprietary" that they exclude the forming of ensembles. Even the earliest digital synths pushed us into this solo musician paradigm with their thousands of presets and device specific voice architectures. The results can be interesting but are more like a home chemistry set than a visceral experience.
