We’ve had height restrictions at some Walmart stores in Oklahoma City for at least 15 years. Typically it’s the stores along busy interstate highways that get so many RVs and semi trucks that they almost completely fill up the parking lots. But you can still get into the lot through the back side of the store because they have to be able to get semi trucks in to deliver their goods. Most all Walmart stores have back entrances that lead all the way around the store and the back entrance won’t have height restrictions.
@FindingOurSomeday9 ай бұрын
Good to know! This one had no back entrance, only room for a few trucks on the side of the building. Nathan and Marissa didn’t have room to park with 3 trucks already there. It was a bummer!
@mikevp29 ай бұрын
That Laurel, MS, Walmart mentioned above had a hanging I-beam blocking the path from the main parking lot to the back where the semi trucks come in. I circled the whole parking lot looking for any way of getting out other than exiting via the entrance lane, and there was none whatsoever.

The cool thing about total eclipses with animals is that chickens will go silent and roost (my husband experienced the 10,000 baby chicks in their chicken houses went silent during an eclipse), nocturnal animals sometimes will come out (my niece was sitting in the pasture with her horses at the last eclipse and a bobcat walked out of the woods as soon as it got dark and crossed the pasture). Birds in the trees will go silent too. Pretty cool! Have fun.

Great video. It gave my wife and I deja vu - we passed through Albuquerque while the balloon festival was going on (though not while any were in the air, alas) and stopped for the night in the Grants KOA. Some people had some pretty impressive camera/telescope setups there, but we put in a few hours driving first and caught the eclipse in Gallup, NM before heading west to the Grand Canyon.

RV manufacturers know how to do slide outs. Next they need to figure out how to recess rooftop AC units when towing. This would reduce heights. I’m sure water intrusion would be the most difficult part but if the AC units could drop down inside and then go back up when setting up that would be amazing. Plus it would be more aerodynamic when towing.

The height restriction is a Walmart or an Arkansas thing along I40. It's really to keep out the semi's from taking there rest stops. We're rv travelers, not full-time, and have tried to go to that Wal-Mart for groceries and fuel and had to find somewhere else. We're in a 5th wheel so there was no chance of getting in there. We live in the direct path of the eclipse in Texas so we're staying home. Our country has declared a disaster for the entire weekend of the April 8th event due to the expected influx of 200k+ visitors into our area. They're expecting gridlocked traffic and cell network collapse. Our cell service is spotty on normal days in certain areas. It's gonna be nuts! All this for 4.5 minutes of darkness in the middle of the day. Safe travels.

Hi Cory and Jess, great video as usual. You would be suprised how often we have to deal with height barriers on carparks here in Mainland UK. Most public carparks have them, at different heights. 12 foot is a generous one! Here its often done to keep 'Travellers', also know as 'Gypsies' from illegally taking over the space, but others are there to discourage overnight camping, mostly by campervans etc. Boondocking is just not really available in most of the UK, but you might find a few places in Scotland. You might actually be suprised how different 'Caravanning' in Europe is from 'RV'ing' in the US! Oh and we don't get to see this next Eclipse here like you do, for us its only a small partial eclipse.

We are in an area of totality here in north western Vermont. I work in a school, and they're actually closing a lot of the schools in the area because we're expecting so many people to come flooding the area. They decided it would be safer not to have the kids on the road (unfortunately, we have to make up for it in June!) Unfortunately, my yard is completely surrounded by trees, especially on the side where the sun will be at that time of day, so I am probably going to drive down to the school, which has a couple of big open fields. And it will probably be more fun with other people. It's kind of exciting though! They say that bees stop buzzing on the flowers, and birds stop singing, so I want to make sure I'm somewhere where there may be a lot of birds so I can see if that happens.
