We were in the Outer Banks in early May and with the Northeaster that was heading toward the OBX we left early. It need up the road leading Hatteras flooded and was covered with sand around the Rodanthe area for days. A couple of home in that area fell in the Ocean. We we camped at Frisco Woods RV Park which was awesome. We ferried in our truck to Ocracoke on a gorgeous sunny ☀️ day. We lucked out that day. We have never experienced such windy weather all the time and the weather on the OBX is very shaky! I will take Daytona Beach where we live any day of the week!

Next Florida trip, PLEASE check out Sanibel Island and Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. The beaches on Sanibel bar none are the best shelling beaches in ALL of Florida and the Wildlife refuge is SO huge that it took me 3 days to go through it to see everything. I went by bike as a resident of Lee County and I was completely amazed at all we were able to see by bike. Gators, wild ones and so many birds. I grew up on Pine Island just across the sound from Sanibel and enjoyed many days there and on Cayo Costa just enjoying the freedom of being out in the sunshine and open air. Hope you'll consider it. I promise the girls will end up doing the Sanibel stoop looking at all the shells and don't forget to dig a bit at the tide line for beautiful live coquina shells. They are amazing to feel in your hand. Have fun y'all

This one brought back such wonderful and very poignant memories of the OBX and Ocracoke. We vacationed in the OBX for 13 years. We stayed both ocean front or Pamlico Sound front and visited Ocracoke many times. We stayed on the island one time. The National Seashore on Ocracoke is just breathtaking. We were in Duck, NC, oceanfront on 9/11/2001. We went to Roanoke Island; we left our rental just before the first plane hit. We went to the Elizabethan Gardens on Roanoke Island; we noticed people listening to radios (the high tech cellphones were not popular yet). I told my husband something is going on; but, no one told us what was occurring. I wanted to ask what they were listening to; but, my husband told me not to do that. We then went to the Roanoke Aquarium, again we heard no mention of what was happening. We got back on the OBX just before 1 pm. I noticed flags were at half staff. I said to my husband; I think something happened. He didn't believe me. We stopped to have lunch at an ocean front pier; when we walked in, we first heard about it on a TV and people started filling us in; we felt complete shock and awe because the towers were already down. We heard all planes were grounded. But, not all planes were grounded. Our fighter jets where patrolling our coast at regular intervals. We sat on our ocean front deck and were in awe when we saw them on a continual basis for almost 24 hours. They were loud and very fast, flashing by. It gave us a real feeling of safety and security every time they screamed by our ocean rental. We all remember where we were on that horrible and memorable day. Another memorable OBX vacation was 9/18/2003. We only got to stay one night of our vacation. We knew there was a possibility of Hurricane Isabel hitting the OBX; but, when you pay a lot for a sound front rental; you go. We lived in PA; it was a 9 hr drive to the OBX. The first evening we had dinner at a restaurant; the staff told us the Hurricane was likely to hit and the next day the businesses were told a mandatory evacuation was going to be called sometime during the day. The staff told us get out of there before it is officially called; there will be a massive traffic jam. So, we got up early and left the beloved OBX. When it became a mandatory evacuation; our trip insurance kicked in and paid us back for the remainder of our stay. Isabel made landfall in the Outer Banks of North Carolina on September 18. There, storm surge flooding and strong winds damaged thousands of houses. The storm surge produced a 2,000 foot (600 m) wide inlet on Hatteras Island, isolating Hatteras by road for two months. Several locations along North Carolina Highway 12 were partially washed out or covered with debris. We went back down to the OBX three weeks later and we drove down to the break in the OBX. It was just below Frisco, NC. Small boats could actually go through the break. The storm surge washed homes right into Pamlico Sound. It was awesome to see what Mother Nature can do. In Nags Head, NC there were oceanfront homes that were knocked off their pillions and were knocked onto the sand. There was a lot of damage on the OBX. So, if while you are vacationing there, if an emergency is called get out of there early. Since your videos come out on a delay, you have probably already left the OBX. I really enjoy your videos. This one was nostalgic for me. I'm really looking forward to the next ones as you travel the OBX.
@jonkirkwood4692 жыл бұрын
We've been chased off the outer banks thrice by hurricanes and had several trips cancelled. Hurricane Matthew caught us right after we crossed Alligator River. The evacuation wasn't mandatory and the kids wanted to stay the last day. They argued the house was above the storm surge. I asked them how we'd get the cars in the living room. So, we left. Good thing, too. Matthew breached Rt. 12 just north of Rodanthe and we would've had to leave via Hatteras-to-Ocracoke-to-Swanquarter. Hurricane Isabel is the only tropical system to cause damage to our home in Maryland. That one was an E-ticket ride.

We have 660W too, but with lithium. I actually installed my lithium batteries as stage one to power our inverter better. Then I installed the Victron charge controller with 2 panels, as well as installing the "CERBO" which puts the system on the internet to query the system from anywhere. We love our solar setup. I may install a 3rd panel someday, as my controller can handle it. I hope you visited the Wright Bros NP just north of Hatteras. Great history.
