Getting rid of a bag (traditional vacuum) has unexpected consequences. Less dirt exits your house due to the complex nature of cyclonic technology.

Again one very detailed and educational video. That's the case. Bagless bin has a lot of spots where the dirt just sticks and remains there and it keeps building up unless you clean it. Another thing is the pre motor filters. They also trap dust and it remains there until you clean them. Another problem with the bagless vacuums is when the pre motor filter gets very dirty. Then it starts to leak and leaked dust goes to the motor.

I think one thing many consumers don't realize is that if you want your bagless vacuum your keep its suction and performance, you MUST wash the filters and bin, and replace filters regularly. Most infomercials will have the consumer thinking bagless vacuums are maintenance free. They are not. With most bagged vacs, when you replace the bag, the filter is also getting replaced with it. They think "oh I don't want that one I have to buy bags". Well in the long run bags will br cheaper than filters and vacuums with bug bags can go up to 3-4 months without changing the bag. Normally filters should be replaced on bagless every 3 months. But most consumers see bagged machines as the devil, and sometimes, that's just what they'll think no matter what.

Great comment, except exchange the word "suction" for "airflow" and you'd be correct. The vast majority of vacuum cleaners actually don't lose suction when they fill up with dirt. They lose airflow. The suction lie was started by Dyson.

My mom tells me that she believes these bagless vacuum cleaners we have now clean better than their bagged predecessors. We didn’t use Kirby or Dyson mind you, so I wonder if maybe she was came to believe that based on variables that differ from what you tested here. But like you said, you do have to clean the components of the bagless model occasionally, and our case, we sometimes put the canister parts in the dishwasher. In our experience, the only major drawback we had with the bagged system was that it was sometimes kind of difficult to tell when the bag was completely full or just half full. Of course we did learn how to tell through experience.

I know that Kirby's can hold onto crap in the power nozzle and the fill tube, but overall, far less crap is held onto in these vacuums and these parts need to be cleaned out... once a year, if that? Meanwhile my bissell, between the poor cyclonic design which I admit Dyson does good at, and the quality of the plastic which practically grabs fine dust, it necessitates being cleaned out at least once every third time it's used roughly? I once used diatomaceous earth (DE) to rid my house of some bugs (for those that don't know, diatomaceous earth is basically *extremely* fine rock powder that kills insects by clogging their ability to breath, but it's totally safe to animals provided they don't huff it too much). I at first tried using the Bissell to clean it up, because frankly I didn't want it clogging one of my filter bags in another vacuum. The powder blew right though the pre-filters, right into the motor housing, and out the exhaust, no separation, nothing. Needless to say, that was *not* the right tool for the job, and it immediately clogged the $16 post motor HEPA filter immediately as the pre-filter did bunk to stop any of the DE. I had to fully tear down the machine to get it to stop smelling like DE, which while not unpleasant, isn't what it's supposed to smell like. In retrospect, using a $2 HEPA bag in my Electrolux would have been a wiser choice. I wouldn't use a Kirby because honestly that fine powder might just get into the front fan bearing and I would rather not replace it.

I had a Sanyo bagless upright years ago and I tested the filtration in it with Carpet Fresh. Tiny bits of Carpet Fresh particles blew right through the ''HEPA filter'' and landed on the motor housing. That was my first and last bagless vacuum cleaner I have had. All of my vacuums have a bag and get changed during the appropriate time.

The Kirby as a sealed van sealed in with the motor, the Kirby has two fans. That’s one of their parents, a sealed motor with a fan sealed off prevents just what you are talking about, the other fan powers the system, pulling in the dirt and directly into the bag..

Too bad you fundamentally misunderstand the confines of this test. Re-watch and listen very carefully for my painfully long, but acurrate explanation of the initial conditions. Only then will you understand why a used bag was featured for this precise testing methodology.

False and Kirby knows it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oauzh4iJps5mibs Kirby didn't even fully switch to disposable bags until the 1980's. Sanitaire still sells machines that use "shakeout" bags.

And rewatching the video the way the height adjustment is being used on hard surfaces, isn’t exactly correct.. I do however understand this test. But not exactly. The true Kirby helps bag has gone through several test it puts out .003 microns of particles back in the air.
@VacLab
@VacLab 3 жыл бұрын
The height adjustment was exactly correct for both machines. How did you manage to miss that fact that there was zero dust remaining on the floor? And this was an extraction test that measured how much dirt you can get out of your house. Where did the figure of ".003" micron come from? The HEPA spec is 99.97% down to 0.3 microns. There is no mention of ".003" anywhere. Google it.

@Michael-hz2pl
@Michael-hz2pl 4 жыл бұрын
@EvanJS2005 The dust remaining in the cyclone is a bad thing..... why? Because that remaining dust will eventually make its way to the filters and cause airflow and suction to dwindle down. In a bagged vacuum, all you have to do to restore airflow and suction is toss the full vacuum bag and replace it with a new one. In a bagless vacuum, you have to empty the bin, clean every inch of the ENTIRE vacuum (inside and out), and wash the filters after each use... which typically requires a 24 hour dry time. This is stuff they don’t tell you on those infomercials you got your horrific logic from🖤
@EvanJS2005
@EvanJS2005 4 жыл бұрын
Michael bud I own a Miele u1 I never said bagged vacuums are worse and dust in a cyclone is perfectly fine unless it gets clogged up but there are issues with bagged vacuums too there another expense and sometimes he user doesn’t fit the bag right and dust ends up getting into the motor which kills it or Damages it me personally think that Dyson cinetic was a failure but it was a step in the right direction except it had no pre motor filter so dust would get in the motor and kill it so I think personally that if you like bagless get bagless if you want bagged get bagged it’s your choice
