Fingerless whistle for people with gaps in their teeth or missing teeth

This short video covers how to do the fingerless whistle while covering your teeth. For people with gaps in their teeth or teeth actually missing by covering their teeth they are able to whistle as though they had a full set of teeth.
The technique is essentially the same as the exposed teeth technique but it might be a little more difficult to make as clear and Powerful a whistle.
With a little practice you will be whistling extremely loudly using no hands even if you are missing teeth or have gaps in your existing teeth.

I watched the initial video before watching this one. I have a gap between my top front teeth and gave up after a lot of spit and drool. Luckily, I've got a really pronounced and percussive shout that makes people jump and turn their heads, and a look that lets them know where it came from.

i've been practicing this style of whistling since i found one of your videos the other day. it's been about three days now, and i have definitely improved. i have moved past just making the sound of fast air movement. my whistles can now definitely be called a whistle, but it is still on the airy and lower pitch end of the spectrum. i cannot get them every single time i try, its about a 20% success rate. any tips to help tighten up the timbre of it? right now the sound is reminiscent of a kid who just got their first flute, and cant quite figure the out the embouchure required to produce a good sounding note. i know that i'm on track, and its just a matter of practice at this point. i'm not exactly sure how much i should be pressing with my tongue. is your tongue relaxed while doing this? or are you in a way flexing it?

Play around with one thing at a time lime your tongue then teeth and then bottom lip. Practice whistling you can do and see of you can figure out why it is working and adapt that to this technique. Ultimately it is all basically the same idea.

But I would like to thank you so much for helping me learn how to whistle despite the gap!! Thanks (I just corrected some typos)

I appreciate all your efforts to teach the whistle. I've been on this for a couple months now, actually for many years but intermittently, rather that focusing. I would say that my main problem is the lack of discipline by the tip of my tongue. it keeps moving, trying to find the sweet spot. there is a space between my two front teeth and I can always hear a lot of the air hissing out between them. My brother can whistle loud and when I asked him to show me, he said, he doesn't know how to explain it. If youre willing, I'd send you a ten second video of where I am and maybe you could help.Thats a lot to ask.

Hi, I found your videos a few days ago and decided to learn how to whistle with no hands. If you have time, take a look at my questions below. Thanks in advance! I have managed to make a whistling sound (only a high tone), but at the same time (most of the time, not always) I also make a lot of "air blowing"-sound. I still get the tone, but not a clean one like you. Any ideas why this is the case? Also, I have a really hard time changing the tone in any way. The moment I try to, I just lose the whistle. I am pretty sure I found a video where you explained this, but I lost it and can't find it again. How did you learn how to control the tone? Thanks in advance!

If you can make a basic whistling sound then it's just a matter of practice and experimentation. Always try to change just one thing at a time so you can zero in on the thing that matters. Do the low whistle and then move your tongue. Then do the low whistle and try blowing a little harder. Then do the low whistle and tighten your bottom lip across your teeth. Those are the three main things that will affect whether you can whistle louder or higher.
@davidpatrickgreen5319
@davidpatrickgreen5319 5 жыл бұрын
If you are making a lot of air sound and not much whistle sound then I recommend you don't blow as hard and focus more on getting the pure whistle sound which will be much lower in Pitch when you're not blowing as hard and once you have it then you can start to increase the air pressure and as you blow harder the pitch and will naturally rise. If you have ever played a wind instrument like a trumpet or a trombone or blown into one of those coaches whistles you noticed that if you don't blow hard the pitch is lower and as you blow harder the pitch gets higher and higher naturally. With the human mouth you'll have to create more tension in your mouth as you blow harder as well because more air pressure tends to want to distort the shape of your mouth which will impede the ability to make the whistling sound so you really have to lock things down as you blow harder but this will all happen naturally if you can start with the low note and then gradually move up from there.

I’ve known how to whistle like you do without fingers & change pitch since I was 12yro. However, due to some health issues I’m in the middle of not having any teeth at all, so it sucks not having my whistle and I’m trying to figure out how. I tried many different ways to get my whistle back and it’s very hard to do without teeth I thought maybe you might have the answer? However, I did not find it. If you have anything or know how to do it without teeth, please show it! Ty

You might be able to do it if you had Dentures or something hard in your mouth. It's very difficult to create a whistling sound with out something to create the boundaries that won't move or vibrate. Maybe if you found some sort of piece of plastic that was shaped the same way you used to shape your teeth

Think of saying lalalala very delicately so that you are just using the tip of your tongue. This should help you get some control. Then equally delicately start using the edge of your tongue to gently seal your upper teeth, then alternate between the tip of your tongue on your upper teeth and the rest of your tongue on your teeth...you have to exercise these muscles you haven't practiced before. Do some away from the mirror and some in front of the mirror as it can affect different people differently

Important tip is to make sure there is a little space below your tongue and let some of the air enter that space. It really requires a chamber above and below your tongue to create the whistle.

I don't know if this will help but This type of whistle is almost the opposite from the pucker whistle. Instead of blowing with your mouth in an O shape you are making more of a th sound with your bottom lip pulled tightly over your bottom teeth.

@davidpatrickgreen5319
@davidpatrickgreen5319 Жыл бұрын
You actually don't really need to shape your tongue. Just raise it up to your top teeth and by virtue of expelling air, an opening will appear in the front. It's sort of like blowing a 'th' sound. Try that in front of a mirror and tell me what you get.

@@davidpatrickgreen5319 thank you for taking the time to answer. When I do this, it opens a 4 teeth wide gap. If I press my tongue harder, it blocks the front and I have two openings on the side (lateral incisives). My frontal incisives are a bit longer than the lateral ones, so that is my guess for why it does this… when I look at you tongue, I really feel like it’s folded a bit in the center of the tip and that the gap is there even when you are not blowing. That is what I’d love to reproduce, but for now I have no clue on how.

@RPGgrenade

Been trying this for a few weeks now with only mild success. I feel like there's a technique problem here I'm missing. Basically I do the lower lip thing, but pressing my tongue against my teeth does nothing, the only way I've gotten even a semblance of a sound has been by creating a chamber behind my lower teeth and tongue by bending my tongue back under itself a little, but that seems to be completely different from this method, and it produces a very high pitch sound no matter what I do and sounds very breathy regardless of if a whistle comes out. Problems being: 1.- I have gaps on my front upper teeth and the size difference between them and the ones next to them make it incredibly difficult to make any kind of seal, which is why I was hoping this would help. 2.- I honestly have no idea what I should be doing with my tongue with this proper method you're demonstrating. Am I trying to make a seal on my teeth? My lips? Is there perhaps a series of mouth sounds I should try to do at once to for the shape properly? I've been at a bit of a loss at the moment.
