I know someone will talk about my non OSHA approved ladder rig. Let me just say it was safe for me. I jumped up and down on it. Apparently no companies make a tool for your ladder like this because it is not approved by OSHA. In the real world, I just get the job done. It was perfectly executed. Funny thing is that once I stacked 5 pallets to paint the top edge of stairway. Wife thought I was crazy when she woke up found me about 12 feet in the air. My response was "you wanted me to paint" Lol

Makes it a lot easier to understand and saves a lot of time on the jobsite not having to mess around figuring out things on my own. Higher production rate = more money. So spending an hour of my time watching videos on my own time makes me more money. Plus I enjoy viewing them

As a finish carpenter myself I really appreciate your craftsmanship and attention to detail. I thoroughly enjoy doing trim work especially crown molding and wainscoting, you'd be surprised how poorly I've seen trim installed in million dollar homes it seems as if the previous workers took no pride or care in their work. I've seen some work that did not even have the joints /seams sanded or caulked lol oh well more repair work for me!

I was pondering whether I want to build one now or wait til I really need to use it. at the moment I'm able to stand my Little Giant on the railing base and lean it against the wall. I'm hoping it will also be useful to lend to friends trying to do the same, my question is are all modern stairs a common standard pitch?

I had a bunch of 4x6 windows and this is exactly what I did. I built and molded all the frames centered them with shims and presto! fastest install ever with minimum caulking. Great video.

Hey man! I really like your videos. I live in Vancouver BC. I'm a carpenter who has worked his way to the top working for prime contractors building buildings. I'm now a CSO / Site super. I have always been in commercial construction. I have been doing side jobs on weekends via craigslist and a bit of word of mouth. I truly love the time I spend doing these side jobs and when I can bring a friend along and pay them as well I get really stoked. Stoked in a way that just dosent happen when at my 50 plus hour a week day job working for $30 and hour. I want to start my own company with myself and an employee or two but have been having trouble figuring out the first major step to doing this full time. I do have truck paymets rent etc and that is where most of my fear comes from when I think of getting one job and not knowing where to get the next. The only thing is I cant seem to find that first one job. Any advice for me? Cheers lol

I used this same process for my downstairs windows, and it worked flawlessly. As an added bonus, you can use self-adhesive foam rubber seal on the inside edges to close off any drafts. I also painted it before install, to save the headache of taping and scraping.

Hello fellow craftsman. Done a lot of trim and I have always used a sharp utility blade to mark my cuts.. ( need sharp eyes, used to have them, lol) No guessing on which side of the line to cut, no sharpening pencils.. Great vids. Nice to know that there are still craftsman out there.. Feel like we are a dying breed.. Keep it up!

I read quite a few comments before adding mine. Making a rig or jig and testing it yourself, you knew that you would be safe so when it came to the installation your mind was on that and not divided between safety and the job at hand. Very well done !! I was trying to remember though, isn't stairway work one of the claims that the Little Giant ladders infomercial used to make? Plus they make a scaffold accessory I think. i really enjoy when you pull a tool out of your bag that I use all the time. that Kreg multi mark gets used WAYY more than the pocket hole jig. and it came as a bonus tool in the master Kit.

So I love your videos. You remind me of a kid that work for me at Euro Design Cabinets. He was always helpful and wanted to better himself always. This framed trim idea is great also for folks who have windows installed to their home that was single pain from back when. The installers only add caulk to seal in the mew ones. This would make for more air tight and better sealed. Love it. The Grumpy Gunny.

Awesome videos, great work. Easy way to get the long to long casing measurements for the frame is measure inside dimension of frame, add 3/8" (for the two 3/16" reveals) then add 5" (for the two pieces 2-1/2" casing). Just a little easier than trying to position the loose pieces and taking a measurement.

Another excellent video again. I usually don't comment on videos, however I had no idea that Kreg multi-mark even existed, thank you, we always made our own out of hardwood. Maybe I can give you a piece of advice too, if you rip your jamb on a slight bevel you can get a better fit to the window when the framing isn't straight, or the energy seal caulking holds your jamb out.

Really nice job! I have a custom cabinet shop with hundreds of thousands of dollars of machine and I am very impressed with your skill! A Paulk style workbench or some light weight horses will make your life easier as you get older. Working on the ground will get harder. Also, read 2 second lean by Paul Akers at Fastcap. You would really benefit from his ideas! Great work! Great video!

Fantastic job, never easy working at a height. We'd love to do this in our house to hide the window installations. Our house is brick built without gypsum board inside. Would you recommend using packers to space timber away from the surface of the reveal - i'm worried about moisture getting trapped behind. Is it worth sealing the hidden faces of the timber? Appreciate your advice, keep up the great work!

Nice! I always build my extension jambs pre-trimmed like this. For new builds, I always have to make sure they do not order extension jambs pre-installed so that I can do every window this way. The pre-installed jambs never sit flush with the drywall and I’m always having to fix things or leave larger than necessary caulk gaps for the painter. This is the first time I’ve seen anyone else do it. Smarter not harder.

I have that KREG multi tool and just use it as a combination ruler. “THANKS” I didn’t know I can use it for that. The close ups of your pencil lines helps much and also how you draw your cut on the piece of wood. Keeps everything in line. Good stuff bro 👍 I personally love doing the majority of my installs like that for trim, it's so much easier. I'll do it for full jamb setups like that or even just picture frame casing setups, use the miter clamps with some glue and a couple tacks in the corners, and blammo, bring it in the house, nail it up, and walk away, job well done 😎👌

Been doing my window jambs and casing like this for years. It’s the only way to go especially trying to trim and ICF opening. Only thing I’d add or do different is pre build my casing with 2p-10 then attach it to the jamb. Either way looks good dude!!!

Good video Richard, you got it right. The only thing I do different is dado the frame and glue the miters on casing. I glue all miters on any window or door casing, but that's just me I am old school.

Love your style of videos - they are great instructional tools for part-timers, like myself. I also like your links to tools that you use. My DeWalt DHS790AT2 just arrived yesterday and is calling out to be used. Many thanks for taking the time and making the effort to produce these helpful shows. As for the GoPro, it has its place, but should be used discerningly, as it can be distracting when it's jumping around. I've seen other videos (not yours), that are enough to trigger motion sickness in mere mortals from the body movements.

If you take the 1.5” off your verticles... it makes it easier to dry fit as the horizontal casing will be supported by the verticals. Just how I do it. Great videos. Thanks.

Is the ladder jig safe? Will it support the load? and are the people using the jig trained on how it works and the limitations? all answers are YES then it is OK. Nothing in the code say's you can't make a jig as long as it is safe.... GREAT JOB!
