That last 20 seconds of the video....your pride...your happiness....and with me, on my jobs...the relief that crunching all the details, phone calls, subcontractor meetings....sorting through product at the lumber yard, addressing customer concerns, paperwork....all the steps and crunching to get to that end product. That last 20 seconds is the payoff. And of course, the $$$$$. But, to start from nothing except the customers hopes and dreams and deliver it...... when you stood and stared silently for a few seconds.....dopey look on your face.... I totally get it , Richard. We are so blessed to do what we do. Dave Heitman in Omaha dba Dave the Carpenter. 43 years in biz......50 in the trade. Semper Fidelis

I have been following you since your very beginning on KZbin. I have learned so much valuable information. It helped me to take that first step in my home renovation these last 6 years, more than you know. Everytime I feel rushed I remember your body language and mannerisms to just slow down and do good work. This video is going to be my favorite video. Go slow, be sure and take a step back and look at my work. I appreciate that. Truly Dianna A.

Heigh Richard: A few years back, I bought a house built in 1892 in what is now a small village of 1500 people, in eastern Ontario, Canada. In 1892 it was a comparative boom town, with two railways crossing at the south end of town. A local doctor bought an 82x250 lot on the "Mill Reserve" and had a house built. Prior to our purchase, it had been owned by a succession of three women (the one prior to us living there for 80 years). Today it is owned by just my wife as I bought the workers cottage next door (owner-built we suspect before 1880). My wife's house is a classic late era Victorian on a budget. All the quality materials and handcraft are where guest would see them. The trim-out on the front door and shallow square bay window are almost exactly what you did here except for one detail: the wide casing boards meet at 90 degrees. Only the beading and outside trim are beveled. All the fasteners are square cut nails. 132 years later all the joints are tight. I can only imagine how thrilled those trim carpenters would have been if they could have laid hands on your "John Deere", lol. As an amateur I like the idea of reducing miters but as someone with a bit of a eye for the pull of aesthetics and function, I like the way the column and lintel approach speaks to me. All the best, mj

Richard! After you had it completely installed and took in that pure / honest moment of job satisfaction, I could literally feel your joy, like it was my own. In a word your work is “Outstanding”. I have a question… what does one do when they have a door that’s jammed into the corner of the room and won’t allow them to make the left and right side vertical legs equal in width?

Great job. A small hint about using the pinch clamps. Wrap a rubber band around the tips. The handle will be held apart and gentle squeeze will spread the tips making clamping and removing the springs a snap.

The other day I saw a block just like yours during a hearing on at the capitol. I believe they were stone because they looked very "dingy" compared to the white trim. The one difference was about about 3/4 of an inch of the trim on the door side (your beaded side) continued past the block all the way to the floor

I agree....the millwork/trim really makes or breaks the aesthetics of a room/home....I recently redid the baby's room and every now n then I'll go in there and pull the curtains back and just kinda take another look....it was my first time doing something like that so I didn't exactly break the bank on quality/high end trim but it's still makes a huge difference compared to the other bedrooms. Great video as always! Enjoy your content !! Thanks !!!!!

I am a trim / finish carpenter who has had to work with rough framers for the past 7 mo. The few rare times I get to do my kind of work, they look at me like I'm an alien when I set up and get going with it. They just take quick rough numbers and slap it together. Their miters are cringe worthy. This vid made me miss my type of work SO much. His proud stare at how sexy trim can look says it all.
