Yes I use geofabric all the time and it is wonderful stuff. I don't know how well it will stand up to the snow plow. I have been using it for a few years and the maintenance is slim to none. It does not allow the rock to squish down into the mud.

I used to have a deck about the same size under a similarly sized metal roof. All the snow from the roof would slide on to the deck. It became a huge chore to shovel the deck all winter. We took out the deck and added snow guards to the roof. Much happier now.

I love the color of the deck boards. If I had that deck I would hardly ever go inside. Great job guys (as usual). But one of the stand-out stars of the show is how you're able to haul your own gravel up that road. What a beast of a vehicle. A perfect gravel dump. Every single vehicle you have purchased has more than paid for itself. I see in the future y'all designing some elaborate dolly system or elevator to the deck. You will never have to haul groceries and big bags of dog food up the stairs again. I can't wait to see all the future projects. Yay, y'all.

Starting your Army truck in the cold. There are magnetic electric heaters that you can attach to the oil pan and leave it there. If your going to add railing , leave a 5-6 inch gap between deck and bottom of railing, or create a swing out portion of railing to facilitate snow removal. That way you don’t have to lift the snow over the railing. You can just push it over the edge.

I just spray ether in the intake filter. It saves having to install injection canisters. It also saves cranking long with that expensive starter. There is nothing to be afraid of. Just don't use ether if you have and use glow plugs or an intake heater. Put down geotextile before the gravel. You can use half as much gravel. The geotextile costs less than the gravel you do not need and you get less mud bleeding through.

Love the enduring utility of the "Army Truck" - I was in the Army when they first came out and super cool to see the old rig keep demonstrating Army Strong. Also cool to see how much the road project is paying off - I remember all the fails of the original road. Deck looks awesome! The best grill in the world for your deck, imho, is a Green Egg - I had mine for 20-years - great for smoking everything, making pizza, etc. You might want to consider screening your deck if mosquitos and flies are prevalent. It would provide a nice respite in the good weather where you can enjoy the outdoors w/out bug spray and getting eaten alive. Keep up the awesomenessNess.

I considered doing that but was talked out of it by the guys at the store who said that the product was not warranteed unless you use the special support materials and have it built by professionals, blah blah blah. I built my deck myself, and honestly, I should have bought the composite decking. It's been 8 years now and despite being careful with the maintenance, the pressure treated lumber is starting to show warping and wear. Oh well, live and learn. We used stainless steel wire for the railing. It is literally invisible, doing it from inside the house and you can sit on the deck and look through it. There’s no much that’ll stop that big beast. You can buy a single axis inclinometer, or a dual axis inclinometer, or if you have one, and if you don’t, get one you’ll love it! A Klein, or other manufacturer, saw blade angle electronic angle meter. They have a magnet on one side, so you can stick it to wherever you want on the beast and get a true reading. But that of course is dashed on the 0° that you start with. The Klein unit is a wee little tool, that comes with a nice protective pouch.

The plastic anchor/spacer clips are really quick and they’re helping to ensure that the planking is true. You’re going to love the synthetic/ composite decking! I put it down on the last few decks I built. Not only is it blazing fast to install, but it’s so beautiful, instantly. When I was installing it, the only options for anchorage was metal screwed on clips. They worked fine, but we’re separate from the screw, and you really had to watch your spacing. FYI-military vehicle load ratings are for off-road/cross country. On highway is double capacity. So, on road, it carries 10k. Also, to avoid meeting Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers, get a tarp to cover your loads, especially when hauling gravel, stone, sand, or dirt. The fines for unsecured loads is pretty excessive. Err on the side of caution

If it was me, I would make provision for lifting outsized and heavy objects to the deck, so they could be moved into the apartment through the slider. Not necessarily an elevator, but a "loading dock" area with removable railings so the excavator might be able to lift a pallet of whatever up onto the deck. Better solution than the old overhead block with poor Courtney on the other end of the rope wondering if she'll be lifted right off the ground! Also, at LEAST until the stairs are in, a pole for you to slide to the ground as a "fire escape" in a catastrophe. Or, if you just feel like sliding down . . .

We still have a few sections of road that we will need to work on next summer!

Looks amazing. It's gonna be a cozy place and with that cold weather, it will be nice to sit around the fireplace and just chill. ( when you get everything done)😀
