Watching you expand those hood springs reminded me of a clever trick I learned while putting my newly powder coated springs back on my 57 Chevy hood. If I may offer a "tip" for those who might benefit. Take your spring and "bend" it until the coils begin to open on one side. Slip a thick (maybe a 12" flat) washer between the open coils. Do this two, , three, or four times. Rotate the spring and do the same process 180 degrees opposite the ones you just inserted. You will find that adding the washers between the coils extends the spring ends. Mine took about four places if memory serves before the end hooks would engage the hinge. Once you have it hooked on the hinge., you can operate the hood to stretch the spring and "presto", all the washers fall out. No Muss, no Fuss,, No wrench "teeth" marks on your finish. ;o)
@CarterAutoRestyling Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've used that idea for removing the springs as well, then leave the washers in and it makes reassembly easy (providing the springs aren't getting refinished) I'm low on washers though, and with the insane price of everything in Canada I just did this one the hard way!

Hey Kyle, my 64 F100 catches everybody's eye and it's mostly natural patina. Areas where I had to repair rust are primers with rust converter and then flat camouflage tan, which oddly matches the original color.
