Can we get the cabin floor done in a week of work?
Survey says, not quite! We were so close to finishing the cabin floor this week but a few minor things got in the way of getting all the plywood down. Fear not, we are still majorly ahead on this cabin build. We honestly did not think we would be this far along until May at least. We did not think we would be starting in March at all. There is nothing but gratitude on the homestead this week as we continue to work away on our future home.
We also received our final delivery from Timberline Sawmill; the windows, doors, and roof metal! We are so excited that ALL of our cabin materials are on the property. Nothing will stop us from building now.
As always, there are a lot of other projects happening in the background of the build and I like to try and share a bit about those as we go. Becca got the burn barrel ready for the endless scrap wood we will be accumulating and for the umpteenth time we organized the active scrap wood pile and conex for the windows to come in. It definitely won’t be the last time that happens.
We are moving at an amazing pace but we do take days off here and there to avoid burnout! We did a town trip on Thursday for some dentist appointments and always take off Sundays. This week we will be heading back on Saturday to wrap up the post hole gravel and prep to get the rest of the plywood down on the floor first thing Monday.
Then we will be working on setting logs!!! In APRIL! It will probably take a little time and a few calls to the sawmill to figure out the kit itself and make sure we know what is going where. But we are incredibly excited to be working this far into the project so early on.
AS ALWAYS THANK YOU FOR WATCHING. We could not be doing all of this without our amazing viewers.

Levi you should insulate your floor before you get all the plywood down, and maybe try to get some small gauge wire mesh to hole the insulation up in place and it will help to keep varmint out of the insulation.
@beccanlevisalaska
@beccanlevisalaska 6 ай бұрын
We're going to wait to insulate until the roof is on because of all the rain we'll inevitably be getting. We'd rather crawl around under the floor over the insulation getting wet!
@susanfrens8837
@susanfrens8837 6 ай бұрын
#1 just wondering why the floor joists are so close #2 put the silver moisture barrier down in between the joists (you have the ledges) then insulate, then plywood. Done. No need to crawl underneath later. No critters either

Curious on what your plan for insulating the floor and how you plan to keep rodents out of your insulated floor? Looking good. Will be nice to have all the floor done before mud season! I built my log home from a kit 30 years ago. I used OSB board on my floor. If I had it to do over I would of had a tarp large enough to cover the floor to protect it from rain. It ended up getting rained on a few times and that caused the OSB to swell. It caused some problems when flooring was installed. As soon as we got the logs up, roof installed and window in we moved in. It took nearly 10 years to complete. We did 95% of the work ourselves. Built the entire home with out a mortgage. We bought materials and furnishings a little at a time to stay out of debt. It was a pain doing it that way but was worth it in the long run. Wishing you guys the best of luck and a blessed happy life!!!
@beccanlevisalaska

We plan on doing r30 in the floor and we will do some sealed osb on the underside after we finish with electrical and plumbing. We have some large tarps that we plan to use if needed but for now we have sealed the osb with some discounted deck sealant from home depot.

Not sure why your toilet paper won't decompose along with the poop. I grew up with an outdoor dunny in a family of 9 and we used TP in it without any problems. The Tp breaks down faster than the poop in fact. Just use proper TP ..... NOT paper towel.

Do you have PO Becca? I wanted to send something very small but could be helpful. I have been growing my own flowers and vegetables since Covid began and I wanted to send a few seeds from the ones I have found to harvest the best. I happened to start talking to a woman at Home Depot and she told me where to get the best seeds. Since that year- this is the third year w these seeds- way better. The first 2 summers crap w bad seeds

It’s just a few of the brand I order from online th at I have extra of (this is the brand the lady on line at Home Depot 2 years ago told me about- more expensive but well worth it. Buy them all online) and a few extra of just boring ones I picked up at Home Depot. I don’t love the brands they carry. Wonder how long mail will take to get from NY to Alaska lol! Hopefully you get them without any issues. USPS is so slow and bad lately.
