Removing Stumps, Falling Trees And Moving A Shed | Cabin Build Ep. 1

Alaska Cabin Adventures

Күн бұрын

I'm building a new cabin at my off-grid Alaskan homestead but first I must prepare the build site. The problem is my shed is in the way and so are some big trees and stumps. So today we cut down some timber, rip up some stumps, and move and entire tool shed in the pouring rain. I'll even show you how to sharpen your chainsaw.
Big thanks to Forest and ‪@TruckHouseLife‬ for the help!

Just a little trick, if you lay a jacket, blanket, or something on top of the chain or cable you're using to pull with, then if it breaks it won't come flying at the vehicle.

I can’t believe you took a gamble with the tree. Lucky. Best practice; use a bow & arrow to launch twine over a branch, tie a strong rope to the end of the twine and attach the rope somewhere up the tree. Tie off the ground side rope to a secure spot in the desire fall direction. Tighten it using levers. Cut the tree and tighten the rope as the tree bends.

Timmy J to the recue. That file deal, you're not playing a fiddle. Good job falling the tree. Timmy needs the building practice for his house. Get his hammer sharp. For your drag job, bark those pines, that green wood is a lot slicker to pull across. Very near everything you build needs put on skids. Good job. A piece of rubber beltline is good to set a floor jack on. Find one at a sand and gravel operation. Wore out the better. Man that solar power is doing great, Battery sawsall handy. That's what they cut off steal catalytic converters with. You need an arctic mud room on the porch will be a million trips in and out when working. Good vid, work safe

When you are pulling something like that with that much tension, lay something heavy like another chain over the pull chain in the middle. That way if the chain breaks or comes loose it, gravity will pull it straight to the ground and it won’t come flying at you or your truck. People have been killed doing what you did.

Always use a bore cut, if you don't want to catch a barber chair. Do not ever stand in front or behind a leaner, when you cut it. 5:50 - you were in real danger there.

Im sure this has been asked before so sorry, but im just curious if theres any fish in that pond out in front of your place?
@alaskacabinadventures
@alaskacabinadventures Жыл бұрын
Good question, there isn't in the pond, but just beyond the pond there is a creek with fish. But there is literally 7 or 8 rivers within about 30 minutes that have world class fishing so I don't spend much time back there. Soon as the snow is done blowing out the rivers I'll be fishing again!

Why so small the new cabin? I build a shed like that and a couple of feet on each side made a huge difference.
@alaskacabinadventures
@alaskacabinadventures Жыл бұрын
I debated on going bigger, but ultimately it's a bunkhouse, which will be cheaper and easier to build (doing it mostly solo) and it will heat up easier and stay warm longer. It's just a place to crash and relax. I have gone back and forth about wishing I did 10x16 though. Oh well, I can always build another!

Can I be honest? Watching this video, I feel like ....somethings wrong. Like if there is a situation in Alaska that is harmful, tiresome or damaging to people. In response to that, I want to ask if you three guys could attend a local Christian Church. You may not have done this before. But I have to witness, there is supernatural things that can take place WHEN people start coming together, and God sees us. Good things can start happening. Problems that seemed IMPOSSIBLE to solve start to diminish, until a light goes on, and people realize, " We can solve this!". Please, try going to a Christian church. Thank you.
