I hope you're right, Michael! I encountered a few things that I already know will take a little extra work at plaster time, but I did the best I could. Thanks for the encouragement!

@@MidlifePrices Excitement and fear usually feels the same.... when everything goes in it’s place and you see just his incredibly you’ve done, you’ll know the whole time there was no reason to fear, in all you do measure three times and cut once .... And asking advice from those whom have been where you are, is never wasted advice ... you are doing such a great job!! Let us know when you get your trusses I know you’re going to need a hand ...

Hi guys. So great to see this comprehensive straw bale build. Way to go. Brian we all do things based on our best knowledge of a project but I am in total aggreement of using "artificial" bucks on your long straw bale wall without windows. I would also add additional "fake" bucks on the wall. I pose the question: If you didnt need them what harm would it be to have them and it would personally provide extra peace of mind if I was doing a build like yours. Hope that helps! Yeah I agree Pam what we put into our mind before bed can influence our emotions. I would just say no to murder mysteries too. Course knowing me I would simply watch more nature programs. LOL.

Thanks, Don. That was kind of my thinking, as well. Looks like Pam is going to have to start watching her fear intake just like liquids after a certain hour! 😂

Thanks! May need a little more work after the box beam is on, but just needs to be real close for now. Plaster should be able to make up for any gaps.

Ha ha ha.. you two crack me up.. buy, with home costs having gotten so expensive now in 2022.. I bought & paid cash for my 5-acres in northwestern Wisconsin & I think this could be an affordable as well as better insulating option home construction plus, unique & maybe sturdier than a stick built.. I had also considered a shipping container cottage design for this retirement cottage retreat. I'm impressed with this & already discovered I could get local Amish to help with-(pay them of course)-the timber rising & metal roof installation.. with some friends on a few weekends the straw walls could be erected- & taroed as I do the mud application & finally end with outer stucco before the snow flies & finish inside at my liesure.. this is with having concrete slab poured & process started in the Spring.. maybe even finished sooner?.. it's got me doin lots of thinking & estimating & costs come in at about half or, more of what any other options are.. that's amazing.. straw is expensive too but, a semi load delivered is still less than what materials would be for all my other design & material options,. There's no reason this cannot work in cold weather Wisconsin.. in fact I think it's gonna be better.. love to see the finish project(?).. include email & I'd be happy to send photos

It's definitely cost effective, if you're willing to do some labor yourself. And can be pretty quick, too, with a little help. Good luck!

Nice work guys. I noticed the slipping on the straw. You guys are gonna have the same slipping issue when you apply the plaster. I was thinking a couple tires leaning up against the angle, then a board or two on top of the tires should provide a decent platform
@MidlifePrices
@MidlifePrices 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe. We may do some more work around the base between now and plaster time, so we'll just have to see when we get there. It actually helps a good bit that we're on dirt right now, instead of something solid. The straw isn't quite as slippery when it's on top of dirt.

Good job and explanation Brian. I can hear the excitement in Pam’s voice. Will you bring using straw to fill the bottom of the window bucks?
@MidlifePrices
@MidlifePrices 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Michael. She's definitely very excited. I am planning to fill below the windows with small bales, but they won't contribute to the roof support, so I'm holding off for now. Wasn't sure at first if I could get bales in there, but I think I can make it work. 🤞

Ever considered using a different material for the interior walls to save on space? I haven't seen anyone try it before, maybe just drywall or hollow bricks?

Where's all the pipes inside? Are you running any indoor plumbing?
@MidlifePrices
@MidlifePrices 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Jason! There is a wastewater pipe just under the bathroom area. Haven't figured out exactly yet how I'm going to bring the water in, but it only needs to be accessible along one wall with the kitchen and bathroom. All the wastewater should be able to leave through the bathroom area.

A 2x6 wet wall along the inside wall would be convenient for water and waste lines and gives a place to hang cabinets as well.

Haha! I guess all methods have their good and bad. This was tough, but still a very doable method. I guess some scaffolding would make it much easier! 😃
