Our family is almost finished building our off grid home! Our house functions as a fully normal home, just off the grid and run by our off grid solar power system. In today's video we are focusing on finishing what we started, checking off our punch list items and wrapping up this build.
We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while we building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

Guys. Those barn door rollers used to be built that way on purpose. I think they are a set. The idea was that the rail was not level. The door hung perfectly vertical but the angled rail would cause the door to automatically open/close depending on which way it was hung.

You do great work. I advise you wear eye protection whenever grinning metal or wood, driving nails, or doing any type job that has the possibility of create flying debris. I had a relative who lost an eye, because he was not wearing his eye protection. He normally wore it, but got in a hurry and did not take the time to go get his eye protection, before he started grinning. A tiny piece of metal traveling at high speed was all it took.

Always a heart lifting viewing. Enjoy your children’s childhood - in retrospect it is so short a time. My two sons were born in 66 and 68 and I wonder where all the time has gone so quickly. And my only grandson is now 23. Where did all that time go - and SO fast!

To fix those little pin bubbles, try using a wet/damp sponge, rub over like you would with sandpaper. it will smooth it out really nice with out the dusty mess. It will remove the mud if you are not careful, just don't rub too hard.

After building several buildings basically by myself, studio, shop, remodel two houses, storage shed etc, I quickly found that the frame work goes relatively quickly and looks llke a lot gets done. Then, the finishing work. It takes forever seems like because there's always just one more little detail that needs to get done that takes much of a day if not more. But it's the finish work that shows off your work. You are wise to finish the part you've done so far before going on to the next addition. I'm still working on finishing work lol. I have found that a lick and a promise is often a promise broken. Great job you two! Beautiful house so far.

You can add a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid to break the surface tension in the drywall mud. That will stop those air bubbles. Also, when you go to final sanding you can use a wet sponge to help you get it flat. It helps because you can actually use the wet surface to see defects and push the mud around a little bit as needed. Plus, less dust!

Greetings from New Hampshire. Regarding the barn door runners being different heights, they are supposed to be that way. The rail should be higher on the back (or “open position” end) than the front or “closed” end. That way the door hangs level and gravity helps you close the door and gravity ensures the door stays shut. Don’t buy another roller, just raise the left end of the rail to where the door will hang level.

Basement with garage over it ( that would give a place to work/build thing's like the door's and be out of the weather) and then over the garage the bedrooms. Have a 1 story mud room between the garage and the main home with the stairs for the bedroom part. I always do this when looking at house's. You 2 are really getting thing's done. Love your home. In regards to the door carriages. At the 5:00 mark. It looks like the carriers are identical cast parts. From what I can tell, it looks like one set of rollers are worn away a lot more than the other set. I know you don't want to loose the rustic antique charm so if you can't source a match to what you've got. Stop by a machine shop, they can turn up a few new rollers to match the less worn set you have. If you were nearby, I'd make them for you. On that note, people were commenting in the previous 'door' video about how loud it rolls. If you're going to have rollers made anyway, that would be the time to get them made from nylon or UHMW. A tough plastic would roll a lot more quite on the steel track. Keep up the awesome videos. Have a great new year.

Regarding the move of light switches behind the sliding barn door, you might want to check out the Lutron Caseta Switch (3 way with dimmer) PD-6WCL-WH-3-A . It is paired with the Lutron Pico remote switch PJ2-3BRL-WH-L01R. It will save you from doing any wire pulls. The remote switch communicates to the main switch wirelessly. I have used these extensively and saves a LOT of $$$.

Josh, hate to say it but you need to wear safety glasses when grinding...I know someone who almost lost his eye because of doing the same thing. You have too mush to live and be thankful for!
