I've listened to this song countless times over the past year and for me, it's that song that I turn to when I'm upset. I just sit here and listen to it, take in his beautiful voice, breath through the words and let the music take me away. I will never get over this song and I am so glad i found it.

This is a song so sincere and without even the hint of pretense that its almost painful to listen to. He plays a sleight of hand where he drops the third wall between listener and himself.

And I don't know if you notice anything different It's getting dark and it's getting cold And the nights are getting long And I don't know if you even notice at all That I'm long gone, baby, gone, long gone And the things that keep us apart Keep me alive And the things that keep me alive Keep me alone, mmm This is the thing, mmm This is the thing, mmm This is the thing I don't know if you notice anything missing Like the leaves on the trees or my clothes all over the floor And I don't know if you even notice at all 'Cause I was real quiet when I closed the door And the things that keep us apart Keep me alive And the things that keep me alive Keep me alone, mmm This is the thing, mmm This is the thing, mmm This is the thing And I don't know if you notice anything different And I don't know if you even notice at all And I don't know if you notice anything different This is the thing, mmm This is the thing, mmm This is the thing, mmm This is the thing This is the thing

The perfect guitar is a hybrid like a Prius--Classic acoustic! What a tune. Sultry, soulful, painful, primal, folky. Major and minor chords, simple lyrics and instrumentation, buzzing strings, relentless strumming, great vocal. Fink: Go ahead on witcho bad self.

I've not heard this since December 2007 when I moved into a flat with my best pal. It was meant to be for 2 years... we moved out with our girlfriends 11 years later. Life just flys by now... not long had my 40th. I don't look back at the years with jealously. The person I am now is the happiest I have ever been and it's only gets better (I've never been unhappy, just now is the best). But if I could just time travel back to watch for a day or two, that would be brilliant.

I remember when i discovered him i was in a music shop called HMV in the U.K and i kinda felt like i was willing his hard believer album to be a masterpiece in the sense of it hitting home on a personal level and jesus it did that, i cried to nearly every song on that album and i'm a dude, not afraid to admit this i really did shed a tear from how powerfully close the coincidences where to my own life expierences at that time, loneliness, depression, anxiety all those where personified in that album and it all felt like more than coincidence, anyway have a good day reader, i just wanted to say all that for a long time, fink, you are a genius!

It's cool that you found this song way before all the cool factors added up to it. I admit basically this song is a piece of great music. Just so that you know, not everybody gets the privilege of finding a diamond in the rough but that doesn't mean they appreciate it less than you do. It doesn't change the fact that this song is still inspiring. :)

i love the way this song is produced!! totally what i'd like for my songs! it stays close enough to the simplicity of the duo voice/guitar and yet ,it drives us away into a modern atmosphere.. I am buying a classical guitar for sure very soon :) just love this "bass" sounding! Cheers, David.
