A musical masterpiece. A timeless classic. This song will not age.

Here's my understanding: First the camera shows very closely everything. So you can't get a clear view. To get a clear view you need to stop looking closer. To stop seeking perfection. Take a step back, and eventually you'll find a beautiful scenery. You'll find yourself.

I downloaded this song MONTHS ago. It’s contagious. It’s haunting and mesmerizing. Then the other night it hit me AGAIN, only much differently....I’m going through a tremendously difficult time in a marriage that’s only exasperated through covid-19 isolations. Two years ago, I lost both my parents within the same year and my remaining sibling committed suicide in between those deaths. She was the second and last sibling in my family to take their own life. My family tree literally ends where I sit. I listened to this song the other night with my headphones, very loudly. I must’ve listened to this at least two dozen times in succession. It never tired or got old. It still doesn’t. I am hurting so much right now, more than I ever thought possible but THIS song is my loving companion for now. I love it and I love FINK for creating it. The perspective from close up to far back enough to actually “see” the real picture is a prolific statement. Don’t ever think your music doesn’t reach people. God bless.

Bro I Lost My Dad This Year and I got COVID, I'm thinking very carefully what I go to say, not trying to compare at all mine with your situation is hard to imaging, so today a got a loop "Try New Sounds, new music" and I get here because I was hearing about this guy 'Fink' from a singer on an interview, I said why not (Nice Music I have to Say). Now I'm reading your comment and writing feedback, Serendipity?. I don't know. but when I read the phrase "My Familly Tree Literally End Where I Sit", I said this is a BOOK or AUDIOBOOK or Something and me goosebumps, I Immediately Remembered the "Viktor Frankl Book" any way that was just a crazy moment hehehe... But If You Decide to Write It, I Would Like to Read the First Copy... Peace Bro!...

@yorgohoebeke8 жыл бұрын
The music video is really well done. I like how it starts with a close-up of his skin, his eyes, the guitar, the drums, his face - we can barely see anything. Then when the chorus starts, the camera goes further away, showing you more details, little by little, and you see the band playing the song. It seems like they are in a grass field with some trees - so we start making ourselfs a picture of the scene. But then, as the music goes on, the camera goes away and up in the air, revealing the bigger picture... They are actually on the top of a building. Because sometimes, we're just "looking to closely", and we need to step back to see the bigger picture.

I took it as the complete opposite. To me the whole song seems very sarcastic. From the beginning it says "this is a song about somebody else so don't worry yourself". To most people, it's not very comfortable taking responsibility for our own actions or lack of. "Put your arms around somebody else" - basically surround yourself with people who don't hold you responsible but support you when in fact you are wrong. "The truth is like blood underneath your fingernails" - the more you analyze the situation and look at yourself, the more the guilt weighs down on you. "And I could be wrong about anybody else - you don't want to hurt yourself by looking too closely"- we all know deep down when we are at fault even when we don't want to admit it, so , ironically, he's saying it's better to not try and justify our shortcomings because that means analyzing the situation, and inevitably realizing it's our own fault. Everyone looks at it differently, but that's what I took it as.

This is a song about somebody else So don’t worry yourself, worry yourself The devil’s right there, right there in the details And you don’t wanna hurt yourself, hurt yourself By looking too closely By looking too closely No no no no… Put your arms around somebody else And don’t punish yourself, punish yourself The truth is like blood underneath your fingernails You don’t wanna hurt yourself, hurt yourself By looking too closely By looking too closely No no no no… No no no no… You don’t wanna hurt yourself You don’t wanna hurt yourself And I could be wrong about anybody else So don’t kid yourself, kid yourself It’s you right there, right there in the mirror You don’t wanna hurt yourself, hurt yourself By looking too closely Mmmmmmmm By looking too close Mmmmmmm Yeah….. Looking too closely You don’t wanna hurt yourself You don’t wanna hurt yourself By looking too closely

I first heard this song in background in Teenwolf the scene where Stiles dad brings Stiles memories and his room back using that red detective board thread. That was a cool scene and this song made it 10 folds better.

For most of my life I have always looked for flaws in other people I guess to protect myself. I have always had the fear to get hurt by others. For me this video and song represents just that. No one is perfect but that doesn't mean they are bad either. Now with 19 I am more confident and open to others and music like this helped me a lot. I am still not where I wanna be but I will keep on working on myself.

There's nothing to improve about yourself sir, You are a perfect system of survival which needs no human thought to do so. Do you beat your heart?, are you breathing or being breath? The only imperfection you have is and always has been pointed out by others. The fact that whatever food you take is to be turned into "you" or that every 26 months your entire body has regenerated itself, if that is not seen and respected as the most important and highly sophisticated system ever experienced by us. Then what would it take to make us see? When you pay close attention you will see that every action in this reality is matched by an opposing action so that no actual progress can be made. it is a perfect system of "good versus Evil" which is only possible through humanities beloved "competition principle". Which you and all of humanity has accumulated through other people's opinions or teachings. i wish you well.

Thanks... I was really homesick and just wanted to listen to this song for some odd reason. Your comment makes me feel that I'm still out there, fighting and making a way for me. About the flaws in others, I guess you're on point with that. We are all pure from the hearth. At least we think we are and that's what matters in the end. Once again, reading your comment makes me more content about who I am.

I interpreted it we don’t look at ourselves closely but look at others at needing to fix themselves before we look closely at our behavior. “This is a song about somebody else, so don’t worry yourself, you don’t want to hurt yourself” (by looking at yourself first) the message is to look at yourself/the mirror first.

This video was shot in Berlin, Germany, in the east. The district is Lichtenberg and the house in the last shot is called „Pyramide“, because it is basically two towers and a glas pyramid between them. It was once the biggest clock in europe. Btw, I like this song a lot, too. :)

As I am going through therapy at 41 years of age, I am losing everything. My wife thought I had relapsed and that I was back into active use. Reality, I was processing a memory of extreme abuse and I couldn't eat or sleep. Those of us with mental health concerns don't seek help nor even acknowledge it for fear of what I am literally going through. My daughter is 7. Been married for 11 years. I am not using. I have to continue to get better mentally and emotionally. The pain of separation from my family is deep and intense and the thoughts that in the end I will be divorced makes me want to quit. Then I hear this song. It's my motivation to seek the pain and process so I can heal because I am learning that I actually do matter. To those suffering in silence, get help and trust looking too closely.....

"Put your arms around somebody else, don't punish yourself..." I've always seen that as like don't isolate yourself after losing someone just because you feel like you should feel alone and hurt. Idk if that was the writer's intention but I come back to this song every time I need to hear that.
