We were in new zealand for 3 years and my daughter studied there in primary. She carried only 3 lunch boxes and water bottle; fruits or vegetables for memory break, then tea break snacks, then lunch. There no exams class teachers is the assessor. They learn through games. When teacher teaching children site on floor around the teacher. There are no homework.
I am having a school for over aged children from an under privileged community who have never been to school with the goal of breaking the poverty cycle. This would have been the third generation who would not have gone to school. Medium of education is English with the intention of breaking the language barrier between communities bringing communal understanding and harmony as well as broadening their horizons. This village has many other problems which I cannot handle on my own. A Day Care and a class for drop outs has become a necessity. I'm happy to say my vision for the school is the same as what was discussed. I will be happy to discuss with anyone who is interested.

Keep doing good work! This is what society really need!🙏👌Excellent!
100% agree with what you say in this video. Our government and people who are involved in decision making should look into the contents mentioned here. Our talented Sri Lankan children should be given the correct backgrounds. Mr President I think you have the lawful approach to give our dear children a good future.
These days I live in Italy.I had a opportunity to go to a Primary School. It's fully organised but students and teachers are free.Realy like a paradise. I heard Italy is the fist country introduced Montessori Method to the world.

Super video, Nuwan. Have enjoyed your videos on different education styles. I too have been interested in seeing a different system in Srilanka...have read about different systems in the world. Like the Steiner method. As someone who is in the higher education system, I'm also aware that most of those who get selected to the so called elite fields like medicine and engineering are really not suited for those careers. They have selected those fields due to their prestige, parental/ teacher pressure etc..a sad situation. I also strongly believe that things like carpentry, pottery , weaving etc (among many others) should be taught in schools. And as your friend in Finland said, equal respect for every career...and all children to be seen as having different potentials and abilities. High time our education underwent a Major reform.
Thank You for the series of programs Mr. Nuwan. As a teacher I also disagree with current exam method and education in Sri Lanka. By creating this awareness at least we can start little by little by changing student attitudes.

If I am correct, Finnish teachers need to have a Masters level qualification. To live in Finland one must be very lucky. As an education professional with experience in Sri Lanka and overseas I would like to give any support for Nuwan's effort. I feel for the children in Sri Lanka for they deserve a future they wish.
