Finnegan's Garage

Күн бұрын

The 306 episode of Finnegan's Garage marks the end of an amazing adventure that sees Joe Cole and I driving Blasphemi all over Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio while racing at three different 1/4 mile dragstrips in a quest to complete the Midwest Drags. This was an incredible one-in-a-lifetime trip that we know you'll enjoy with a rather unfortunate ending. For more footage check out @SummitRacing @SummitRacingMidwestDrags .
If you love this kinda content let us know in the comments and please like, subscribe and share this channel with your friends. By far, the best way to support our efforts here at Finnegan's Garage is to visit the website and pick out some merchandise. Every dollar spent on apparel goes right back into fixing and modifying the cars used in these videos.
Thanks for watching!
-Finnegan

Mike, when you explained how hot the blower was on the different runs throughout the week, I think I noticed that when it's hot, you leave the line in a cloud of black fuel smoke, when the bower was cooled down, no smoke. It's probably way down on power when its hot and overfueled for the amount of air going in compared to when its cool and the air is right for the fuel. Just a theory. Great week! thanks for sharing!

The trick with a faceplated transmission (I have 2 cars with faceplated tko's) is to just put pressure the shifter, tap the clutch and your in the next gear. It wont come out of gear until you hit the clutch. Don't depress the clutch to the floor The higher the revs and faster you shift the less clunking there is. When racing, use the clutch, its faster than clutchless shifting and no lifting, keep the throttle floored. As far as clutchless shifting goes, when going easy just lift the throttle and gently shift to the next gear. Thats the best way to shift when just tolling around. Rev match when downshifting. I rarely use my clutch unless my going hard through the gears,

A drag and drive event across the beautiful Commonwealth of Kentucky in the middle of the summer is a bucket list must do for this old fart typing this comment. For my entire 55 years I've traveled from Detroit to the mountains of eastern Kentucky to visit family. Ive passed by that Clay City dragway hundreds of times. I mean that literally, dad once said i was only 3 days old on my first trip down. Just a few miles east of that track is a state park where you will find Natural Bridge. You take an old ski lift to top of the mountain then a 1/4 mile hike to the most beautiful stone bridge. Over time nature has eroded the opening underneath a huge rock creating an almost man made looking walk bridge. With miles of trails one can travel, that entire park is one of my favorite places in the world to visit. Highly recommended if you are ever in that area. It warms my heart to see that dragstrip flourishing because ive seen too many tracks close down and eventually eliminated, so to see this one survive is a real treat. A drive from Clay City, across the middle of the state over to Bowling Green is such a gorgeous ride. Dads family are from the mountains in the east and moms family are all from the rolling plains in the west. Mom lives just 60 miles from Bowling Green so this drag and drive would be like visiting both sides of my family. Watching Mike and Joe cruising the 55 Chevrolet from track to track and making low 9 sec passes at each stop makes my entire day better! Any car thst successfully completes a drag and drive is a hot rod that commands respect, so hats off to all y'all who went and conquered. Making a sticky note and putting on the 'fridge now... "must compete in drag and drive across kentucky to Cincy and back before meeting Jesus"

I replaced the shift bushings on my old 74 Chevy truck with a three on the tree and it never felt right again. The throw was less than half of what it had always been, trying to bang gears my brain couldn't get used the short throw and with that old 250 six in a hiily environment quick shifts were desirable. But at least it quit jamming in two gears. When my mind was preoccupied the new bushings shifted smooth as butter though.

Mike Please read this post! Please for your wife and kids wear your 4 point seat belts when driving anywhere anytime. I knew someone who had a race car and was driving in town at 40 mph and someone pulled out in front of him and he hit the brakes but failed and ended up with him and his friend destroying their faces on the dashboard, it was terrible! Years of surgeries and they will never be the same again. This was so preventable, they had the lap belt on but the shoulder belts were just laying on the seat unused. This made a big impact on me I hope you take this advice. Thanks for listening and thanks for all you do to keep us all interested in cars.

Kevin Smith is using Miralat (however you spell it) suspension parts on his 78 Cutlass. I'd suggest getting a Pro Stock trans someday if you can afford it.. That way you'd still have the H pattern required for Gasser/Stick Shift but it shifts a lot faster. If I had the money to build a drag & drive car, I'd definitely put a Winter's Quick Change in it.. that way you can have track gears and then highway gears and ever have to worry about it.

Hello Hello From Canada!!! Hey big guy that was a brutal way to end the trip, but you finished event with class. Most anyone there, would have been upset and running around the pits trying to borrow parts, then probably frantically slamming it back in shape. Like you said "Not worth wrecking the car" and because it really wasn't possible to repair it to be 100%, your safety matters most of all. Even though I'd love to see you winning an event, seeing you healthy and happy is the best ending for the episode. The stuff you have planned for the car are going to turn it into a beast for the next races. I don't know if you'll even check the messages but it was awesome to go along with you and Joe on this trip. I was wondering why Joe never did any runs? If I was you I'd go crazy with hole saws and dimple dies every where on the door panels, trunk floor etc, you'll be able to shave another 100 lbs. or more off her, but keep more of the structural strength much better than attacking the panels with a reciprocating saw. There might even be a big market for Blasphemi t-shirts with "holes and dimple dies" graphics all over them. Keep up the incredible content and I can't wait to see all the mods you are planning to do.

Raced Nitro RC cars for 25 years. It all translates over. Even to deluxe Xray Models RC setup tables with ball bearing toe plates, bumpsteer adjust, antisquat adjust, springs, shocks, shock pistons, ect. 4 corner digital scales that give you splits, percentages, ect, so you can set each corner like you would like. Sad about Blas, but, now that you have that over with(scratch), Blasphemi will win ALL races from now on!!.

Regarding a statement you made on getting old and needing readers . You can get them at any market , drug store etc . They're usually at least $ 9.99 at most stores . However , Dollar Tree and .99 Cent store has them for less than 2.00 . Not Dollar General , they're almost as much as Walmart . .99 Cent Store or Dollar Tree ....buy at least 10 pair . Take the tags off every one of them and spread em around . I keep a pair in every tool box I own , plus at least 2 pair in every vehicle except the bikes . The year I turned 30 ( 45 years ago ) a buddy asked if I needed to go into the sunlight to read jet numbers ....and life just keeps getting better !!

I’m 71 years old now so I better get busy. Ps I met you and friburger at Turners auto wrecking in Fresno when you picked up the Old GMC P/U on road kill

Congratulations on completing the whole event! You can rebuild it. You have the technology. It won't cost $6,000,000.
