Gotta say, it took balls to have Finnick kill Adela at the end there! I wasn't expecting that at all. I thought she was probably going to die by tracker detonation when she didn't get to the cornucopia fast enough, leaving Finnick and Tiberius to duke it out. Nice job!

This is so well done! It's interesting to actually see the Careers turn on each other, since that's what they always do, yet they never made it that far in The Hunger Games or Catching Fire.
@NateSean10 жыл бұрын
##############Spoiler Warning####### I honestly think doing the entire game would have been needlessly repetitious. Most of us who have read the books or seen the movie, already knew how this game was going to end and starting with one tribute's death was more than enough to satisfy the "show don't tell" concept without having to add another bloodbath scene that doesn't really add to the mythology. Starting towards the end of the Game was also a good move, because this was Finnick's story and there's no reason to get attached to a bunch of other tributes we know are going to die anyway. We see Finnick alive and there's enough evidence in the first few minutes to show that he didn't just win by merely tagging along with the career pack. There's a great blend of music and visual effects and the use of camera angles and lighting to tell the story. Then there's the talent you manage to draw to you. Every actor puts in a hundred percent Game and shows genuine skill. Even Rebecca had a bit of a shaky start in the sponsor gift scene, where it seemed like she was just barely memorizing her lines, but in a very short amount of time she gets her confidence and the character comes out in her performance. Then there's your star actor, Caleb Angus. He portrayed the character perfectly as the cool and confident survivor, but with subtlety that revealed a hidden layer of emotion. His quiet promise to return home balanced out with his polite bonding with Adela, knowing full well that this can only end one way. That's the final moment I want to praise you for. It would have been an easy cop out to have Adela killed early so that it would just be Finnick and Tiberius. But having them come out as the final two put more gravity on the scene and gave Finnick's victory a bitter sweet quality, especially when most of us who read the books know the kind of future that awaits him.

Amazing! Can i just say that the Forcefield looked amazing? It was so colourful and how you made the Capitol Logo new. I see you had a lot of Ideas and they worked! This shortfilm is by ways the best right now. I enjoyed it and I got sad when Adela died. The Music got my Feels. Which I kinda missed was that maybe Finnick sits next to her and doesn't leave her until she dies. Like hold her hand or something. Finnick got to know Adela in this Shortfilm and then he just killed her and leaves her dieing seems kinda strange. But still you got it good. I enjoyed all 18 Minutes and I'm impressed. The Background of the Arena where we see Islands and stuff was just breathtaking. Congratulations and thank you for this Short film. DgnMusic Thank you for enjoying the film! The reason for Finnick not holding Adela was a conscious choice. He knew when he got the Trident that people were rooting for him to win the Games and he realises that in the end the person he has to be and the mask he has to wear for the Capitol so he can stay alive. After all, only one can survive and the Games truly do never end even after winning. I will be making a behind the scenes mini episode of how it was made very soon. What I dont get: in the books they say district 4 is a career district. So shouldn't there be an 18 year old volunteer for that district? Finnick was only 14.
@harinisakthivel52124 жыл бұрын
Finnick may have volunteered because he felt ready. But district 4 was also said to be rebellious as they supported the rebellion against the capital, so it’s also possible they train to increase their chances but don’t particularly volunteer, cause if I remuer correctly the district 4 tribute for the 74th games was quite small and not very athletic.

So I don't get why Finnick had an ally until the end really... It just doesn't make sense for him to kill her in the end, but it's your story. Finnick had one goal: Get back to his love. I'm surprised he doesn't talk about it much in here it seems... But really, I think it would've been more dramatic, although predictable, if his ally died in his arms and he used his emotions to defeat the last tribute.
@1109films8 жыл бұрын
Personally, I don't agree but then again this story changed a lot because of a number of circumstances, but overall it's still how I wanted his story to play out with the minimal budget I had. I liked the idea of having him have an ally because I didn't want to portray him as a vicious killer and I think it would have been incredibly cliche to have him win through his anger with the “bad guy”. To me, he was just a 14 year old stuck in the Games like any other kid with some advantage in combat. I don't fully think he just only wanted to get back to Annie. Although I did include a nod to Annie, I don't really think they were fully in love yet as they were only 14 here and because he was such a token of the Capitol, I don't think he would want others to know of who he loved in case they were killed because of him.

AWESOME. Cool effects and cinematography. But I read in the comments that you changed the book version (Finnick capturing tributes with nets) because you thought it wouldn't be as interesting. Althought I enjoyed this film, here's why I think the book story would have been more intriguing: 1. The whole point of Finnick's games is that it shows us the power of the Capitol in contrast to Katniss and Peeta's year where the tributes have control in the end. You could have done some moving scenes where the tributes, especially the Career pack who have trained and volunteered for these games, gradually arrive at the realisation that the Capitol ultimately holds the power and have chosen Finnick as their victor - the Hunger Games are all about politics. It would have made your film multi-dimensional. 2. His popularity - a defining feature of his games - was only briefly mentioned in this film but it should have been featured as a greater element to create tensions between characters (which is what would have happened). The book says that it took a week for the others to figure out Finnick was the one to beat. This would have made for an interesting dynamic - the Career pack not understanding the extent of his popularity but being exposed to it more and more by witnessing his parachutes or noticing he bounced back from injuries. You could have explored the gradual build up of tension within the group of older Careers who expect to win becoming frustrated and eventually threatened by an initially non-threatening 'pretty boy' 14 year old. 3. ^^^ And this idea of creeping up and being a dark horse leading to explosive events is the essence of his character and his life in general. Funnily enough, Annie "crept up" on him which ends in a remarkable love, he gradually collects secrets for years from his 'lovers' before spilling everything to Panem in Mockingjay, revealing Snow's secret use of poison. So the feel of his character in this film wasn't quite as intriguing or true to the books. 4. You could have made Finnick's kills really suspenseful. He captures his victims with a net and spears them - you could have shot it from the tribute's point of view perhaps and used some horror movie techniques to build suspense with a hunter versus prey dynamic. 5. The book doesn't say Finnick was a "quiet kid" who tracks down his prey and kills them. It says he was a Career tribute which means he volunteered and was trained - the Capitol was entertained by him and loved him so he wasn't keeping his head down, sitting on the sidelines. He's also very charismatic in the books and this film didn't quite portray that. Good job overall but it would have been incredible if you'd explored the book version because there's so much potential there in Finnick's story!

Ellen Jackson I'm glad you looked into a lot of things and I understand your point of view. I didn't mean the way he killed in the book was boring, I meant the way it was described was he got a Trident and tracked down his victims and killed them. That doesn't leave a lot for character development and a separate story line to explore the experience of other Tributes in his Games. (Mind you this film only had a budget of $1000 and to create much more story with that little budget is frankly not that doable if you want it to look fairly decent). This short film is just my portrayal of a different side of Finnick with some changes to the story. This is only fan fiction and I like the way my story is portrayed on his character. In my story, I didn't want Finnick to be the very charismatic person he is in the later books. I wanted Finnick to be just like any other 14 year old kid thrown into a vicious arena and not realise why he is so loved by the Capitol. That's one thing I don't like about some other fan fictions where they make him this sly happy kid who's cocky. I do know what happens in the book and I'm not just missing things, I intentionally made them different on purpose to make a different story.

Absolutely loved it, lived up and exceeded my expectations. You pulled it off so brilliantly, especially with the budget you had. I really loved the subtle hint of Annie's presence (I believe) in the film, with the scene with Finn and the rope (bracelet of some sorts was it?) but it was quite powerful, his simple words but so much meaning. Ah, loved it. Great job!
@1109films10 жыл бұрын
Poppy Harnett Thank you! Yes the rope bracelet was a subtle hint that it was given to him from Annie. :)

Joshua Chislett but Finnick didn't really know Annie yet. and he certainly didn't love her at this point. I get that youre trying to show him as sensitive, but he was a career. The Finnick we love evolved over time.
