To me, you speaking Finnish is a quality of its own in this channel. Your English is excellent, but your personality really burns through when you speak in your native tongue. I really hope you keep that. And beyond language skills, I get so much insight into music and song by your vast knowledge of those. Thank You!

Thank you so much for this comment! I started this channel during lock-down to be able to help my Finnish students better. However, things escalated quickly and as my channel grew to be more international, I started adding CC as well as speaking more English. I still have both too young and too old Finnish students to be able to read written Finnish. I've actually gotten tons of positive feedback on the bilingualism which I am of course very happy about! Thank you to Brandon as well, people like you guys keep me going 🥰

I'm old enough that I went to school in the pre-Internet days so exposure to things was far more limited, but a classmate of mine went on the American Field Service study abroad program and spent a year in Finland. You don't get to choose the country you are assigned to, and Finnish is considered one of the most difficult to learn, but she was such a brainiac that she did very well, loved the country so much that she eventually emigrated. This she managed from a country notorious for not learning other languages. While I didn't travel as much as I'd have liked to, now at least you can get exposure to things much more easily. Which is why I have Norwegian friends and picked up a few words! So, I too am enjoying this channel as much for that as the expertise in the music video reactions.

Great reaction. SOAD has a lot of interesting songs. I guess I'd like to see you react to Chop Suey, for a few reasons. It was a hit for them, it has very deep lyrics, and you get to hear vocal harmonies from the guitarist, Daron. They also have a song called "I-E-A-I-A-I-O". It's funny because the chorus is all vowels, and the verses are tongue twisters.

If you like different time signatures you will love TOOL. I saw you reacted to "Sober", but i first recommend "the Pot" to all new listeners. Its more accessible and highlights every instrument and Maynards singing. After that there are tons of other songs from them. System of a down is one of my favorite bands and they created some of the most influencal albums in the last decade. I recommend "Spiders", "Arials", "Questions", "BYOB" etc. Serj Tankian(vocalist) has also some solo projects that are really amazing. He combined his raw and soft singing also with more classical influences for his music. I recommend here "Empty walls", "Sky is over", "Honking Antilope" and "Harakiri"

It is true that, being an Armenian band, that culture does somewhat inform their distinctive sound. Of their well known songs, Toxicity is unusual in that it only features one of their vocalists. If you're willing to do a second song, I would highly recommend "Chop Suey" or "Hypnotize". "Chop Suey" is a bit more emotional with interesting rhythmic changeups. "Hypnotize" has really cool melodies with wide climbing intervals and harmonies layered on top.

Whenever I listen to question or watch the video, I imagine it’s about a young couple in the icu in comas after a terrible car accident. The berries are available to both of them, but she eats them and crosses over into whatever come after this life. He doesn’t and eventually recovers. She was pregnant in my scenario making the baby at the end not only an allusion to the neighboring question of reincarnation, but possibly literally their offspring.

I have so far not seen anyone do a reaction to Tori Amos "Me And A Gun". Should be perfect for a vocal coach, since it is single voice a capella. The experience she processed through that song is another matter of course. As for SOAD: They have on occasion dropped hints to the meaning of their lyrics (when they weren't obvious like BYOB e.g.), but generally whatever you find is yours. Like with Rammstein lyrics - it is up to the listener to find a message, or not.

Armenians, super talented Armenians. Its important because their background more than some other nations have gone through some extreme social struggles and they have a great knack for discussing social disorder. Like the blues and rap SOAD really like to provide food for thought and produce satire that is presented in a genius way. Hated to see metal die in the USA in the late 90s and didn't give these guys a fair shake till 20 years later and love them now. The newer stuff sounds as good as before but haven't put them next to each other

Lots of people repeat the schoolyard myth that Serj was trained in opera singing, but he started in these first two albums singing entirely without training. You are correct in the fear that he was harming his voice with performances like this song, and in later albums he does not sound quite the same (still very good!) as he learned to adjust how he sang to prevent further damage. This song was about the culture of Hollywood and Los Angeles, but many of SOAD's songs are more strongly about American politics of 1999 - 2005. By today's standard, it is very surprising how overtly progressive their lyrics were for such a mainstream success in the music industry. Almost every SOAD song reaction suggestion you will receive will be good (popular ones are "Chop Suey", "Aerials", "BYOB", and "Question"), so I would like to also interest you in checking out their songs "Sad Statue", "Tentative", and "Prison Song". Your reaction was very good, I enjoyed it a lot. The analysis was also insightful and satisfying. This is my first time on your channel, I think the choice to give the reaction in the language that feels right for you is great-frankly, needing the CC also keeps me from getting distracted by comments sometimes!
