I would love to hear you dive into the voice of Maynard James Keenan. He is the singer of the progressive metal band Tool as well as the lead vocalist for two other amazing bands A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. A great place to dive into Tool are the tracks "The Pot", "Sober" (live 93'), or a personal favorite "The Grudge" (Which is the starting track from Tool's album Laturalus whose title track "Laturalus" is a masterpiece itself that includes utilizing the mathematics of the fibonacci sequence in the lyric syllables, chord structures, and time signatures.) The rest of the Tool Army will surely make other suggestions. As for A Perfect Circle the tracks "Judith" (named after his mother who had suffered a diminished lifestyle after a stroke left her reliant on a wheelchair when he was 11), "The Noose", "Passive", and "Disillusioned" are great places to explore. And lastly some Puscifer tracks to start with would be "The Humbling River", "The Remedy", and "Momma Sed." Please start with Tool and spiral out into the others.

U.S. Army Recruiters used "cloths" as something "cool" to show in classrooms, when they went to schools, looking for new recruits. They also used very eloquent words to describe "middle east" as a great place to have parties in the desert.
@Objectified6 ай бұрын
No, they didn't. Individual recruiters may have made some claim to that effect, but that was not a common practice, not a norm, not a thing most said.

That would be Daron Malakian on backing vocals/harmonies. 🤘🤙✌️
@mastod0n17 ай бұрын
Daron doesn't do backing vocals/harmonies in this song. He has his lead parts and he does the backing parts when they play live, but the backing vocals have Serj's vocal quality. Except in the chorus I definitely hear a female voice and Jennifer pointed that out. I've listened to the isolated vocals track and the quality of that voice doesn't fit either Serj or Daron's head voice. It is almost definitely an uncredited female singer. Edit: I hear Daron in the background during the outro but that's it. I count his part in the 2nd half of the chorus as a lead part

I, like a lot of the others, would love to hear your thoughts on their song "Question!". And for great examples of Serg's vocal gymnastics, please give a listen to "Sugar" and "Suggestions". oh SOAD has a discography filled with iconic pieces of arts. i personally love the anger about injustice they bringf across, while other songs like soldier side just make you feel depressed and absolutely despise wars and all that has to do with it. i think good follow up songs would be chop suey, soldier side, sad statue as well as prison song. but then, all of their songs are fabulous and theyre great at making political statements and follow up with songs that go banana banana banana and pizza pizza pie lmao
@grandkaiaki11 ай бұрын
What that was at the beginning was a very subtle pre growl and then ofc the high pitched maniacal scream after. A lot of bands similar to system of a down (Slipknot or dir en grey for example) do these experimental theatrics in their music. It really helps to express the feeling throughout the song. Which is also why I like to sometimes listen to music that has throat singing in it because the energy is so different. The tones, expressions, pitches, and sudden changes.

Jennifer! Well this one is not for gentle souls. The message echoes of those heard in music from the 60's during the Vietnam war though just a bit angrier and less musical. This harsh tone will never be my thing but as you say the message is still important. I was just young enough to not have to go to Vietnam and then too old for other conflicts since then. As you said the angry interruption of "the party" at the end of the song was interesting imagery. Good reaction and analysis as always Jen.

SOAD's music is essentially commercialized agitprop. They're a fantastic band, I love their music as music, but as a vehicle for convey factual information their music suffers the same problem as that of RATM - also a fantastic and arguably even better band. For example, "Why do they always send the poor" wasn't a representative of what was happening at the time, and hasn't been for 40 years. The U.S. military made great efforts in the post-Vietnam period to ensure that military ranks closely reflect the socioeconomic demographics of the United States.

To expound on this point, since theirs only a few rich people, and much more poor people, it still makes sense as a lyric. There's also still a fast track in commissioned officers versus non commissioned officers. Also even if technically recruit's can pass all the same tests, the context, resources and mentality of someone who has already come from a commissioned family is going to give them greater success at knowing what exactly to do at the critical time. Plus, even if someone is an exception and comes from a poor family to make it rich, often the decisions they make with the money they made can be on the superficialities of being rich, versus the deep techniques that the rich use to stay Rich. Maybe the classism is Way better hidden nowadays, but that doesn't mean it's not there.
