Apologies for the re-upload! I decided to change one example sentence in my video to make the content more accurate (the robot voice one yes lol). Sorry if you made comments in my previous video but I deleted it so I can't see them anymore 😬 It took me 2 days to re-do the CC English subtitles (which I need to make in order to manually add the global subs) so that's why despite it being a small edit, it takes a long time to implement lol so hopefully you didn't get too impatient if you had this video on your 'to-watch list' and suddenly it disappeared 😅I just seem to make some silly mistakes when making grammar videos.. which is why you can probably tell I try to avoid them as much as possible 🤪 But this one should be okay now 🥰

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in this case the difference is possible ro replicate in English. Kynä on pöydän päällä The pen is on the table Pöydän päällä on kynä There is a pen on the table. That's how I feel it would be translated into English?

The video deals with one of my favorite topics and I haven't seen much about it so far. So I was really concerned when it suddenly disappeared. The Finnish word order is not that dissimilar to the German one, nevertheless some Finnish sentences suddenly look like randomly thrown dice. E.g. the genitive is in a different order, a word like 'kanssa' is often in a completely different place than in German, ... But the topic is extremely interesting and I hope you can add something to it every now and then, kiitos!
@KatChatsFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Hahahah randomly thrown dice xD Yes, there are always more videos to be made concerning Finnish grammar. A never ending topic :p

Yes, I would summarize the word order very briefly as TOPIC -> NEW INFORMATION. The (semantic) topic is often the same as the (grammatical) subject, but not always.

Hello can you also make videos from suomi 3 book pleaseeee❤❤❤❤
@AJBonnema3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the detailed explanation, especially of the 3rd point! I do wonder if your explanation coincides with the teema-reema rule, where you always place the known up front in the sentence (no matter whether it is object or subject) and the new information at the back. Is that a different rule? Or is that what you are describing? You have no idea how often documents with a strict adherence to teema-reema throw me off course, because the subject is where I don't expect it. I am getting used to it, but applying it is a different matter altogether. Thank you for the video!!
@KatChatsFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Oh I think someone else also mentioned something similar so I believe there is a point to that! I'm not sure what the specific rule would be without researching it more..but of course I can always dive deeper into the word order theme in later videos too :D
@justaname18373 жыл бұрын
I thought the strict adherence to theme-rheme would make texts more comprehensible than, if you add new information first and then mention the topic.

Hi! I have a little question. So you can say “pöydän päällä” to say “on the table,” but “pöydällä” can also mean “on the table” since it’s in the adessive case (I think). In an example: • “Mitä on pöydällä?” • “Pöydän päällä on mun kynä.” Could you ask the question as “Mitä on pöydän päällä?” and answer with “Pöydällä on mun kynä.”? Thanks in advance! ^_^
