Also in the category of ‘old artists’ this year: Skinny Puppy did their final tour, killed it at every show, and then official called it day. An absolutely integral band in the history of Industrial Music. They never compromised on their vision and gave theatrical & memorable performances. While they do have a few ‘low points’ in their discography, they have an impressive and influential amount of work that holds up to this day for (again) their unique vision and style. Well done, Skinny Puppy. Absolute legends.

I’m one of the many who discovered Sleep Token in 2023… and am left dumbfounded that their earlier gems went under the radar the way they did. If those guys actually got passed that and gave it a real listen, they would notice it’s very well written pieces of Art Music with deceptively simple parts. It’s all one guy that writes the stuff and bounces it all with a very talented drummer… Maybe the 3 million people who follow them on Spotify also use Tik Tok ( 2 truly evil inventions ). I grew my hair out to anticipate the indie-rock comeback, hoping more metal accompanies it like before. Also, the 2011 nostalgia is bubbling in the midwest. Sometimes the Red Line is looking more like a Blue Line train from late 2010. There are definitely smaller cycles within the 20 year cycle. I was dressing like I did in 2009 during 2020 myself. Being able to leave the house again and go on tours has been almost as reinvigorating to musicians as it is for gay when they come out of the closet. This massive burst of energy got everyone's creative juices flowing again. Whether it's the classic bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, etc, releasing new albums that are actually good again to new wave of 'modern metal' it's a good time for everyone involved. Because it's not even worth mentioning. I was the biggest A7X fan from 8th grade to 1st year of college. I seen them on thier Nightmare Tour and Hail To The King tour. After 6 agonizing years of waiting. I was genuinely upset at how lackluster and disappointing the new album turned out. I was hoping so bad for a return to form of something like a mixture of Hail To The King and Nightmare albums. Shoot I'd have been happy as hell with a Waking The Fallen or City Of Evil sound. They clearly tried to be innovative and experimental. And some bands can pull it off and even move the needle so to speak. Like Bring Me The Horizon has done. But this was not that at all. And finn forgot about mentioning it because let's be honest. It's the kind of album you would easily forget about when none of it is worth remembering outside of MAYBE The song Nobody which was halfway decent. I think The Rev truly might have been the secret sauce of Avenged Sevenfold. His last album was Nightmare which he practically finished before dying. Since A7X basically did a tribute album to the greatest bands making songs that sound similar to already huge songs like Sad But True. Then they did The Stage which was mediocre with a couple good hits but compared to the new album its GOD TIER. This band has more talent then most every will between Syn, M, Shadows, Thier Drummer and the rhythm guitarist. Way too much talent to waste it making songs like they did.
