That association is made after you've listened to those bands and gotten used to how they sound while knowing what their name is though, generally. Korn comes to mind. If you heard Korn and never knew their name and someone gave you a list of names with Korn mixed in there, you'd never guess that was their name, but after you've associated it with them, then it totally makes sense to your brain.

To me, Godspeed You! Black Emperor is some really damn good music. I have been into them since my 17 (I am 33) and love them since. They are one of the best post-rock bands that are not only still alive, but still relevant. And oh, dear, their live show, that was just transcendental. GY!BE are timeless.

@@xavkoston16 I personally find "F#A# Infinity" their best album, but its maybe not as approachable as "Lift your skinny fists" or "Allelujah! Dont bend, ascend" so, maybe, I would recommend these two as starting albums. Songs, I really like are "Anthem for no state pt.1, 2, 3", "Mladic" or "Storm". Hope, you will enjoy them!

The Devil Wears Prada is named after the book that the movie is based off of. In fact they formed in a year before the movie came out, but broke out shortly after. I do agree with it being confusing. kind of like how some people probably think the band Avatar based their name off the james cameron movie, or Avatar the last airbender, but they started in sweden in 2001 years before the show (2005) and movie (2009), but only became known in roughly 2012

Agreed, I think XIII has both songs that still hold up pretty well and songs that don't, Sun Doesn't Rise being one of the worse ones. For anyone new to Mushroomhead I recommend starting with either the XX album which was their major label debut and basically a greatest hits album containing remastered versions of tracks off their 3 self produced albums, or just start with self produced albums like Superbuick or M3. The band today in my opinion is nowhere near as good as it was in the early days with all the lineup changes over the years

Their guitar work is way more interesting and memorable than any of their peers and Dallas is a far far better clean singer than anyone else in that scene. To call back to one of Finn's recent videos, I'd say Alexisonfire's 2nd album Watch Out! is a 10/10 album. I saw them when they were touring for that album playing small clubs and it was an incredible show. Their S/T and Crisis are also top-tier albums.

pop band Maroon 5 started out in the 90's as Kara's Flowers. Despite the soft sounding name their music was actually harder, as they started out playing grunge before switching to lighter alt rock more fitting of that name, but even that still sounds harder than maroon 5

I love mushroomhead, as they happen to be in my top three. What I'm kind of thrown off about is the level of thought process in the discussion of the band and their name. The name is oddly enough one in the same with their lyrics. Alexisonfire is rad! They are good hardcore/metal from the mid 2000s. Garnered a cult following for a reason because Dallas Green's clean vocals are some of the best to grace heavier music around that time. That's why they're so good!

One of my favourites is jawbreaker. Their music is great but the name kinda sounds like it should have been for a beatdown band. One of the dumbest naming conventions that’s I also kinda love is the sports themed emo/pop punk band names. American football, yellow card, and title fight. The trend probably peaked around 2014 with bands like modern baseball, free throw and I kid you not THREE different bands named: sport, sports., and remembering sports.

Please do a part 2 of this Some other bad band names that come to mind are Dance Gavin Dance, Real Friends, and any of those ones with a sport in the title (American Football, Soccer Mom, Hockey Dad, etc although Modern Baseball sounds marginally better). Iron Maiden, Royal Blood, Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Guns N Roses, Slayer, and Queens of the Stone Age are all really badass names.

The name wasn't bad necessarily but I thought the band catherine somewhat hindered their success because of their name just because of how plain and difficult it is to find. I recommend if your making a band have the name be something unique that would show up clear in searches and something people will remember.

I always wondered why so many metalcore bands have names that are short 4 word phrases, like As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, Of Mice and Men, Every Time I Die, From Autumn to Ashes, A Day to Remember, As Blood Runs Black, Bullet for My Valentine, We Came as Romans, etc. Some like Sleeping with Sirens and Between the Buried and Me go for 3 or 5 words, but generally they stick with 4.

Finn making a case for Body Count being a bad band; gives an example off of their very first record, rather than playing something off of their last 3. 100% completely different genres. Finn, you Could maybe make a case for their newer era sound being bad as well, as music is subjective, but Tbf most people who like Body Count in 2022 is talking about one of their last few records.
