Garry is probably the most watchable grappler because he's a cocky gambler/acrobat. It's like watching a videogame or comic book. He'll gamble with a position for a risk of an advantage. That's why imo hes in the top 2 best grappling matches: him vs Kron and him vs Palahares. Gordon could be like watching an instructional. I mean it's good for the enthusiasts, but not necessarily for a spectator sport.

I hear what you're saying, but Gordon is fun to watch, because he toys with his opponents, he's so dominant. You mentioned Kron vs Gary, I think Kron who no longer competes, was another fun guy to watch. Submissions hunters are awesome. Gary is fun to watch too, but I just prefer Gordon's cold, calculated approach.

... +PED's, Many a style developed from use of PED's and what they allow. Certainly Gordon Ryan for example. He can train much more with it, learn new skills faster, he can recover faster, build more muscle, better cardio if he is on Erythropoietin (EPO) etc. And virtually all of pro BJJ competitors are on gear so obviously it provides advantage and allows development in certain areas in certain ways they could not do if they did not use gear. Hence anyone who is honest with themselves must take it into serious account. Its an open secret anyway. Everyone is on it, and knows about it. They just want talk about it.

@@keviny7480 On a pro level, yeah , I don't think you can compete with no PED at highest pro level. Have you seen how jacked the players are in pro BJJ? They are more massive than MMA even. Its crazy. Everyone is on something. And if there is someone who is not, he will be in huge disadvantage, so he would have to be double or more times better than everyone else to just level the playing field.

@@keviny7480 True. Sadly I'm not sure what can be done since the culture of fair play is overshadowed by the prize fighting aspect. I don't think testing and all that is the answer as long as culture of PED usage exists. I don't think it will change soon, but I don't follow BJJ as much as MMA so I can't really say what is is like in the Gyms. Is it open secret that is tolerated or is it taboo. By the looks of the grapples it seems everyone understand its part of the sport and way to prevalent for any professional who wants to make a living doing this to ignore it as a competitive edge. Sad but true.

I’ve heard from many accounts that Eddie was the true obsessive innovator of the entries. As Firas said, they had been coached in leg locks by John for years but the entries were different with DDS. Eddie created the start of the new era of leg entries.

He's got a degree in physio therapy and three peered review papers on behind the knee pain. He's very skilled at the bottom half of his and people's body's. The top half He's not as good.

I stopped fighting as a pro after 2 knee scares in the space of 6 months & full-time work in boots wrecked my stabilizer muscles. Taking up ice skating fixed my stabilizers, strengthened my posterior chain, made my arse bigger & helped with squat HIGHLY underrated cross-training activity, if I had the money/time I'd keep doing that in the background- one of the best rehab/strengthening modalities for grappling.

I went to Puerto Rico after the DDS split. To be honest, I do not think that the DDS would have split if they had all moved to Austin. In Puerto Rico the environment can be so difficult that, unless you have unimaginable trust and dedication to an ideal, you will not make it as a group. Ultimately it was better that the DDS broke up because if gives students more choice in choosing teaching environments that may better fit their style of learning.

John Danaher, please put your magic touch to the outdated, "old school" art of Catch wrestling. I absolutely love the art of Catch wrestling. It's so interesting to study and observe, as well as making harmless but intriguing comparisons to similar arts, one very notable comparison being Catch wrestling against BJJ, but it can also be taken a step further and a comparison can be made on the throws and slams of Catch wrestling against the throws and trips of Judo. Even though the techniques and fundamentals of Catch wrestling might be considered outdated when compared to the new age modernization of BJJ, all of the insanely skilled practitioners dedicated to perfecting the art, giving it a modern makeover; Think of like a John Danaher type and you'll understand exactly what I mean by "perfecting and modernizing, updating and upgrading". Catch just doesn't have the incredible minds constantly making it better/more effective. Catch wrestling could really be turned into a very effective and DOMINANT, technical while also keeping that simplistic, bare bones style of inducing pain to create your own openings for submissions, constantly putting all of your body weight onto your opponent to cause discomfort in order to distract your opponent, causing them to make mistakes and allowing you to find a submission anywhere you can. I really do hope Catch wrestling experiences that type of "Renaissance era" kind of boom in popularity, allowing it to settle into a 21st century era where it can finally be a truly legitimate competitor to BJJ. The current style of Catch wrestling being trained was best suited for the 18th-19th century styles of grappling/wrestling and was also competing against a style of BJJ that was best suited for the same time and interestingly, it wasn't uncommon for Catch wrestling to totally dominate and easily best that era's style of BJJ, but you see the leaps and bounds that BJJ has made in terms of effectiveness. We need that with Catch Wrestling and we also need more well-known (and not to mention actually skilled in the art of Catch wrestling) advocates for Catch wrestling, with BJJ you have the Gracie's who have always been there promoting BJJ (and/or Gracie Jujitsu) along with the introduction of the UFC, promoting BJJ as an end-all-be-all martial art, BJJ gyms on every corner. It has remained in the spotlight for years and years with no signs of losing momentum. Meanwhile we're stuck with people like Curran Jacobs as one of the so-called "world champion" Catch wrestling tournament, yet he makes the art look bad by bad mouthing BJJ players, thinking he is invincible, starting bullshit, only to get submitted not even 5 minutes into the grappling match

Which is why Khabib is my favourite grappler. In saying that, the better you are in competition, having a system, being fit, controlling your nerves, the more generally prepared you'll be in any situation. But try to stay away from idiots on the street, you never know what tomorrow's consequences bring.

They are talking about sport jujitsu not self-defense jujitsu. They are two completely different things and should not be confused with each other. There are plenty of submissions that would not work in a street fight. It's the same thing with MMA there are a lot of things in the cage that work but on the street would be almost impossible to do or useless. But like I said sport jujitsu is its own sport
