It all depends on the age of the building and the contractors who install and choose the fire alarm system. All Alarms installed after 95 must be programmed sound in code-3/temporal which is what this is. I think the panels that do voice evacuation may be given exceptions to this but regardless of horn/bell, chime, and so on they must sound in this same pattern
@roycenimchuk842510 ай бұрын

Hey guys, don't rag on Canada and Vancouver, even if most buildings don't have strobes throughout, many hotels offer a few rooms that do have them. We are a bit behind most parts of the US with retrofit requirements with older buildings, but we're getting better on fire safety all the time, especially in Vancouver. My municipality, the CIty of North Vancouver, passed a bylaw in 2011 (with a deadline of 2016) requiring all pre-1992 residential buildings with more than 6 apartments or units to upgrade to having heat detectors in all suites and storage rooms, smoke detectors in the common halls, and good fire alarm audibility (in-suite buzzers or plug-in "fire link" buzzers), as well as getting their fire alarm monitored by an alarm company. However, no strobes are required, except in some cases where residents have a disability such as deafness or a hearing impairment. Source: I'm an apprentice electrician.

Most hotels I have been to have strobes. The modern ones. In every room. I have been to a old one its bells only

trucksoner Why are USA people obsessed with strobes? If you're in bed, it's useless anyway. Almost noone is so deaf they can't hear alarms at all. It's an excessive requirement of disability discrimination policies, really. It's uncommon to see any strobes at all in Europe or Australia, because they're pretty much useless.

My and my parents recently got woken up by a fire alarm in a hotel in Vancouver as well! I think it was last January at the Westin Bayshore hotel at around 5:50 in the morning. We were in the tower portion of the hotel, up on the 12th floor or so. It seems like an older style building, like many of the large Westin hotels in big cities are. That building had old Simplex LifeAlarm speakers still installed, but no voice evacuation. I believe the panel was an Edwards product due to the fact that the lobby had the Edwards Siga “traffic cone style” smoke detectors. The tone that the speakers produced was a fairly lackluster fake bell sound, and it was so quiet that we almost slept right through it! The scary part was that no notification device or smoke detector of any kind was visible inside our room! Indeed, the sound was coming from the hallway only! Once we got outside the building, I could faintly hear an EST Integrity horn somewhere doing code 3.
