Great video, Mr. Michaud! I have had to fix so many of devices installed incorrectly due to a lack of education or because people didn’t care. I really like how detailed you were and how you took the time to explain the wiring method and how to properly use a resistor at the EOL. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. It helps a lot of people! I will definitely be passing this video along to others! Dave

Connor Madden I agree but this is just the first part. Next will be wiring a panel and then off to Addressable systems. Thanks for watching!!

A thing I like to do when I wire is label everything. It makes going through lines and troubleshooting much easier as I don’t have to figure out what wire is for which connection/application

My instructor taught me to put the resistor under each wire to get a good connection. The other positive I leave empty. Thought?

With some detectors that maybe the case. Not these!! If you don’t put the resistor on the open positive the zone loop is not supervised!! Meaning if something is wrong with the zone the panel won’t know. It’s important to have the panel show a trouble in the circuit in order for a proper installation! In 30 years I have seen a lot of different systems never once did I put the wire and resistor on the same side of the screw!! Hope that helped you!! CM

Can I connect them without a resistor? Just black in negative and red in either positive?

why on the smoke detector and the notification device did you have one set of wires, on the pull station you had two?

@@craigmichaud-electricalins4602 thanks Craig 12pm in Australia not sure what you mean by lab demonstration should there be one or two set of wires to the pull station. have you done a video on addressable panels? I know very little about fire panels and thought addressable panels had an inbuilt ability to locate individual devices. I didn't realise until recently that you have to install an addressable module to each device so that the FCP can locate it. It appears to me that each individual FCP manufacturer have their own specific modules just to suit their panels. Wouldn't it be smart for someone to have a universal one that would suit all panels. thanks for your info Steve

Yes absolutely but this is a conventional fire alarm system. I use these videos to show my students things they will learn in the lab. There are a lot of different situations on how to wire fire alarm. Looks like you are doing some good research!! CM
